They're fast, they're large, and yes, they sometimes make surprise appearances in our homes! 😳🏠

But before you panic at the sight of a Huntsman, here's what you should know!

🔸 Not as dangerous as they look! Despite their intimidating appearance, Huntsman spiders are generally not considered dangerous to humans.

🪳 Nature's pest controllers! Huntsman spiders actively hunt insects, including cockroaches, helping to keep other pest populations in check.

👀 Eight eyes! Huntsman spiders have eight eyes and also rely on vibrations and sensory hairs to detect movement and prey.

🌿 Masters of hiding! They love sheltered spots like loose bark, rocks and crevices, but occasionally wander indoors looking for food or shelter.

🌞 More active in warmer weather! Huntsmans are often more active during warmer months when their insect prey is plentiful.

🏡 Want fewer Huntsmans around your home?

One way to help is to reduce their food source! Keeping on top of your regular pest treatments for your property may help make your home less attractive to these eight-legged visitors.

While they might look scary, Huntsman spiders play an important role in our ecosystem! 💚

And trust us, we get it! Even Mrs DNA, who knows how beneficial Huntsman spiders are, still isn't a fan of finding one unexpectedly in the house! 😅🕷️

A little education goes a long way, but that doesn't mean we have to love sharing our homes with them!

Now be honest… would you leave a Huntsman alone, carefully relocate it, or run screaming in the opposite direction? 🏃‍♂️

Well, it's Monday… and the weather has us feeling like THIS! 😬🌧️😂

We know the grass needs the rain, but more sunshine wouldn't go astray! ☀️🤞

Even LeBugBu isn't too impressed with all this wet weather! ☔ But at least he's looking the part in his new DNA uniform. We couldn't leave our little mate behind when we rebranded! 💙

With all this rain hanging around, we're doing our best to keep everything running as smoothly as possible. Please bear with us if we need to shuffle a few bookings around, particularly for outdoor treatments.

We're keeping a close eye on the weather and will be in touch with anyone affected.

In the meantime, stay dry, keep smiling and here's hoping the sunshine makes an appearance soon!

Happy Monday, everyone! 🙌

Found him in the toilet. Then the lunchroom. Then he legged it through the warehouse 🪳😆

Nothing scarier this Halloween than a cockroach who's made himself comfortable at your workplace. Toilets, lunchrooms, warehouses: they'll set up anywhere there's food, water and somewhere to hide 👻

Humid afternoon, storm rolling in, and suddenly there are winged insects all over the porch light?

There's a good chance they're termite alates, and this is exactly where they come from. These photos are from a recent job of ours: winged alates getting ready to fly, surrounded by the workers and soldiers doing the damage you can see in the skirting and window frame.

Swarming season is well underway across the Gold Coast. On warm, sticky evenings, mature colonies send out alates to try and start new ones.

Not sure if it's a termite or a flying ant? Swipe across for how to tell the difference 👉

Most alates drop their wings and die within a short time, so a few drifting across the lawn isn't cause for panic. If you're seeing them coming out of the ground near the house, from walls or garden edging, or finding piles of shed wings around windows and doors, inside or out, that's when we'd want to take a closer look.

What you can do on swarming nights:
💡 Turn off porch lights and any lights you don't need inside
🪟 Close windows, flyscreens, the garage roller door and internal doors
🌙 Draw the blinds and curtains
📸 Snap a photo or pop a few in a jar, and note where they seemed to come from
🌿 Keep mulch, garden beds and stored timber away from the house, and fix leaking taps and drains

If you see swarming termites around your home, give us a call. We'll come out, find out what's going on and talk you through your options. If it's been 12 months or more since your last termite inspection, now's the time to get booked in. Damage like this often sits hidden behind paint and skirting until it's well advanced.

🦟 Mozzies love standing water... everybody hates mozzies 😂

Warm, humid weather and storm season means mozzies are here ready to annoy the heck out of you. If you spot tiny wriggling worms in standing water that dive when you get close, they’re most likely mosquito larvae, and they can be biting adults within a week or so 😬

A quick check around the yard, especially near your outdoor living areas, makes a big difference:

💧 Remove standing water: empty buckets, containers, toys and anything else collecting rainwater

🪴 Check your pot plants: make sure pots drain properly and tip out any water sitting in the saucers

🌺 Don’t forget bromeliads: they hold water in the centre of the plant, so flush them out with the hose regularly

🏠 Clear your gutters: blocked gutters hold water and are easy to miss

🐦 Freshen up bird baths: change the water every few days and give them a quick clean

🌿 Keep gardens maintained: trim back overgrown plants around the house to cut down the shady spots adult mozzies like to rest in

🌧️ Check after rain: a quick walk around the yard after a downpour catches the spots you’d otherwise miss

Still getting eaten alive after all that? Give the DNA team a call on 0431 380 591 📞

It’s a big day for the book lovers… and one half of DNA is VERY excited about it 👀📚🐉

We’re sure a few of our customers have been counting down to The Threshing too!

While some of us would much rather be disappearing into a new book this week, Dan’s dealing with a different kind of creature - termites, cockroaches, ants and spiders. All the fun stuff the warmer weather's bringing out 😂🐜

So, happy release day to everyone who’s been waiting! 💙

And if you’re planning on spending the next few days completely lost in a book, the last thing you need is creepy crawlies interrupting you.

We’ll take care of those! 😉
