New project getting out of the ground.

Slab, Deck & Awning project finished.
Came up a treat.
A few extras & design changes were added.
Fly over awning changed to facia connected, requiring a box gutter and extra posts & beam for the awning.
Upgraded stormwater line to suit the box gutter.
Roofing under deck to catch any stormwater rain run off.
New outdoor shower for the pool area.

Not everything flowed perfectly. There was a few hiccups along the way too.
The main one being an undersized beam. My fault. Had to pull it out & install the correct size after all the joists hangers had already been connected & the deck screwed down. A real pain in the arse job! But, it had to be done after I noticed too much deflection in the span. Turns out, a glitch in the timber suppliers span tables sent me to the wrong span table! Now its over engineered instead of under engineered.
A real enjoyable project with a great client.

Started demolition & groundworks of a project in Mudgeeraba this week.

This is Stage 2. New deck & Awning.

Stage 1. I did the entry (automatic gate entry), driveway, footpaths, pool surround, shed & landscaping at the end of last year.

There was a few design changes & additions before we started.
1. New Concrete slab under the deck.
2. Awning connected to the facia with box gutter, rather than a flyover roof, requiring additional posts & beam.

Been pretty hectic week with unusual weather for mid winter on the Gold Coast.

Week 1.
Demolition, groundwork & drainage, formwork, reinforcement, concrete, concrete cutting & cleanup.

As soon as the excavation team turned up, it started raining! Then pouring.

Then, while drilling piers for the stair post holes, we found a garden water pipe dead centre of our holes. Murphy's law I guess!

Collapsed pier holes ensued over the week, requiring alot of manpower to clean out.

In hindsight, I should of filled the piers with concrete, as soon as they were excavated. I just didn't expect that much rain, at this time of year.

Little did Julia know, but soon after this, I picked up 2 more young German backpackers, travelling around. I got them on the job too. Low and behold, one of the lads would fall in love with Julia. Eventually they ended up travelling together, going back home. Got married & now have kids!
