🔋 805 "dead" EV batteries just became North America's largest microgrid
Redwood Materials (Tesla co-founder JB Straubel's company) turned retired EV batteries into a 12MW powerhouse that's now running a 2,000 GPU AI data center.
Here's what's brilliant about this:
✅ Batteries get a second life before recycling
✅ Creates massive grid-scale storage (63 MWh capacity)
✅ Powered entirely by solar energy
✅ Solves the "what do we do with old EV batteries" problem
They're processing over 20 GWh of batteries annually, that's equivalent to 250,000 EVs worth of battery packs. By 2028, they plan to deploy 20 GWh of grid-scale storage.
