Building Emotional Intelligence Through Your Belbin Team Role Strengths:

Emotional Intelligence is not about becoming someone else. It’s about becoming more aware of how your natural strengths affect others, and learning to use those strengths in ways that help both you and your team succeed.

With so many people focused on the emergence of AI and the technological changes looming from it, we can't lose our focus on the human element and our own 'human superpowers'.

While everyone can develop their EQ, the path to doing so may look different depending on your own natural behavioural preferences and the actual behaviours others see you use every day.

How do your top team role styles manifest at work?

How to Choose a Team Building Activity That Doesn't Waste Everyone's Time:

Team building can be a powerful investment in your people, but only when the right activity is matched to the right objectives, group, and environment.

One of the most common mistakes organisations make is choosing an activity based solely on what looks fun, without considering the outcomes they are trying to achieve. Whilst enjoyment is important, a successful team building event should also align with your team's goals, constraints, and development needs.

Here are some key factors to consider when selecting a team building activity that delivers genuine value rather than simply filling time.

Our team building for charity events continue to be a popular choice for organisations looking to strengthen their teams while making a genuine difference in the community.

One area that needs increasing support is homelessness, a challenge that continues to grow across Australia.

Our Street Survivors program puts a meaningful CSR twist on the popular Survivor-style team challenge. Teams work together to earn and donate Backpack Beds and care packages for people experiencing homelessness.

Through our charity partner, Backpack Bed for Homeless, donated items are distributed directly to frontline organisations supporting those most in need. These practical resources provide immediate comfort, safety, protection, and dignity for people living on the streets.

It's a powerful example of how team building can deliver more than just engagement and learning, it can create a tangible and lasting impact for the wider community.

Building better teams while helping those who need it most.

Today is Belbin Day.

Today, the 4th of June, would have marked the 100th birthday of Dr Meredith Belbin.

While we sadly lost Meredith last year, his legacy continues through the extraordinary body of work he left behind.

Some of the Sabre team were fortunate to see Meredith one last time not long before his passing in his beloved garden at Cambridge. As always, he was sharp and full of new ideas. That garden was somewhat of a masterpiece and a passion of his.

The Belbin Team Role Model remains as relevant today as ever, helping people better understand themselves, appreciate the strengths of others, and build more effective teams. In a world increasingly shaped by AI, automation and rapid change, Meredith's work continues to remind us of the importance of the human element in performance and collaboration.

For Belbin Distributors like us, and for the countless individuals, teams, managers and organisations who have benefited from his insights over the years, we owe Meredith a great deal of gratitude.

Thank you, Meredith, for the knowledge, the wisdom, and the lasting impact you have had on people and teams around the world.

The 4th of June is Belbin Day.

June 4th this week would have marked Dr Meredith Belbin's 100th birthday.

Whilst we sadly lost Meredith last year, we recognise the extraordinary and enduring legacy he and his groundbreaking work have left for people, teams, leaders, and organisations around the world.

Today, his insights continue to help individuals and teams better understand themselves and each other.

In an era increasingly shaped by Al and rapid change, his work remains as relevant as ever - helping people navigate complexity while strengthening the uniquely human side of teamwork.

Thanks Meredith.

Teams and Team Roles in the Age of AI:

Our MD Talan Miller recently presented with this topic at the AITD (Australian Institute of Training and Development) National Conference in Brisbane.

While we’re not quite at the Hollywood-style “Terminator: Rise of the Machines” scenario just yet, the rapid rise of AI is changing how teams work, communicate, and make decisions.

Our view is that this makes distinctly human capabilities, or ‘Human Superpowers’, more important than ever.

The human “superpowers” that AI still struggles to genuinely replicate, behavioural self-awareness, judgement, adaptability, trust-building, creativity, empathy, ethical decision-making, and contextual leadership - will become increasingly valuable in the years ahead.

To thrive in the Age of AI, teams may actually need to become more human, not less. This is the core theme, the “gist” of the presentation linked below that was presented at AITD:

A great event for leaders and professionals working with L&D, HR, OD and anyone curious about current ideas and innovations in working with people, training and development. Sabre and Belbin are honoured to have our MD speaking at the conference on the topic of 'Teams and Team Roles in the Age of AI'. Looking forward to it.
