⚠️ Another workplace made safe today. ⚠️

This appliance looked fine on the outside — no exposed wires, no cracks, nothing obviously dangerous.
But the age and colour fading of the cord raised concerns, so we tested it properly with our Metrel MI 3309 BT.

The result?
❌ Failed Insulation Resistance test — a key safety test that checks whether electricity can leak through deteriorated insulation (a major fire and shock risk).

Once a cord starts breaking down internally, you can’t see it… but the risk is real.

We walked the client through the results, compared the cost of repair vs replacement, and they made the smart call:

Workshop job ended with fixing a pool?
A client came in stressed because their home pool had gone green twice after recent storms. They’d already had a pool service, but the water turned again and the technician told them the chlorinator was “probably broken”.

They were worried they’d be up for a full replacement — an expensive hit nobody wants.

Before they spent money they didn’t need to, they asked us to take a look.

We ran a full electrical check on the unit:
• Tested the AC supply side to confirm the controller was being powered correctly
• Tested and measured the DC voltage output to the cell
• Diagnosed where the voltage was dropping under load
• Traced the actual fault inside the chlorinator system

Once we found the issue, we repaired it and got the chlorinator working again — no replacement needed.

We also checked and balanced the pool chemicals before we left, so they could finally enjoy a clear, sparkling pool instead of fighting algae every few days.

On a testing job customer said they had a broken water pump. but the Fault Was the Extension Lead**

A customer called saying their water pump had completely stopped.
No power. No sound. Nothing.

Most people would’ve bought a new pump.

I ran a full set of external electrical tests — and the pump passed everything.
So I kept tracing the supply back.

The real issue?
A failed extension lead.
The active conductor had broken internally, so the pump simply had no power.

I issued a failed-test report for the extension lead, with customer approval i supplied a new extension lead from our onboard spares and the pump ran perfectly.

We inspected a system last week and found a faulty solar panel.

The owner had no idea their solar panel was overheating costing them output every day and posing a fire risk after heavy rain.
