🔌 STORM & POWER SAFETY: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ⚡🌪️
With severe weather events on the rise, it’s crucial to prepare for power outages and stay electrically safe before, during, and after storms, cyclones, and floods. Here are some key safety tips to protect your home, family, and property:
✅ Before the storm:
🔋 Charge your mobile phone in case of emergency.
🔌 Know how to turn off your mains power.
⚡ Shut down your solar system following manufacturer instructions.
🔦 Test your generator & ensure a licensed electrician such as us has installed a changeover switch if you plan to connect it to your home's wiring.
🩺 Have a backup plan if anyone in your home relies on powered medical equipment.
⛈️ During the storm:
🔌 If power goes out or is fluctuating, unplug sensitive electrical devices to prevent damage.
⚠️ Avoid using generators, extension leads, or electrical appliances in wet areas!
⚠️ Beware, in some conditions such as when fallen powerlines occur, metal items such as your meterbox could be alive. 🚨 Report damaged power lines immediately to your electricity provider and listen to instructions
🌊 After the storm or flood:
⚠️ Assume all fallen power lines are live—stay well away!
🏡 Check your property for damage. A licensed electrical contractor must inspect your home before power is restored.
🔋 Flooded electrical equipment? Have it tested before turning it on.
🔌 If entering a ceiling space, turn off power at the switchboard first.
🔧 Solar & battery storage: Get a professional to inspect it before use.
⚡ Generator Safety:
🚫 Never run a generator indoors—carbon monoxide poisoning is deadly.
🔌 Use generators only for essential equipment, like fridges.
🛑 "Su***de leads" are illegal & extremely dangerous—don’t use them! (male at both ends)
🚑 Electric shocks? Take them seriously.
⚠️ If you experience tingles or shocks from appliances or taps, call your electricity provider immediately.
❌ To avoid multiple casualties, never touch someone receiving a shock unless trained—turn off power at the source and call 000.
