Susan Hobbs Building Design

Susan Hobbs Building Design We can help you create the best home for your family. Servicing Greenbank & Springfield areas.

Susan Hobbs Building Design and it's sister business Hobbs Homes are specialists in residential building design and construction. After 17 years of trading under the name "Domestic Design and Construction", the two businesses diverged in early 2013 so that each could specifically target their individual markets. The services offered can assist clients as little or as much as required, from simple

drafting of plans for a deck or maintenance on your home, to the design of a grand new residence. The essential day to day running of the business hasn't changed much, with the focus still on helping clients achieve beautiful homes that suit their needs and desires. Many clients have dealt with us for years on multiple projects, and all new inquiries are welcome. Currently, Susan is focussing on Susan Hobbs Building Design and with providing the best service possible to her clients. As Matthew is currently busy with other major projects, Hobbs Homes is only taking on one small project at a time to ensure the attention to detail and personal service remains as the top priority. With over 40 years of residential construction experience between them, Susan and Matthew Hobbs have won several awards for their work and are passionate about sustainable living, high quality workmanship, and functional, cutting edge design.

I shared this post nearly two years ago, and since then this house has featured in a popular tv series. Did anyone else recognise it? Who can tell me what the tv series was? 😁

Little project that happened over the holidays - new timber handles for our cavity sliding doors, designed by me and made by my extremely talented hubby Matthew Hobbs . After years of having no handles at all on these doors (because we couldn’t find anything we both liked), we can’t help but keep sliding the doors open and shut ā€˜cause they are so nice to use!

Envirotecture notes a very pertinent question - if a structure built to BAL standards can sustain this degree of damage, what is the point of these standards?

Tragic loss of life on KI, and this is Southern Ocean Lodge - a relatively new structure that would have been built to current BAL ratings.

It begs the question: If it could not be saved, with intervention, then why are we bothering to build to BAL standards?

We would not be surprised if these fires result in another Royal Commission, and it should be national.

This article is a worthy read, looking at shading windows to reduce heat gain in summer, thereby reducing the need for artificial cooling.

Anna Cu***ng looks at the options for external shading, for both new builds and retrofits.

This is an excellent look at airconditioning and how it has changed our coping mechanisms for dealing with the heat. Just last weekend I had an interesting talk with two of my kids (23 and 15 years old) - they were fascinated to learn that their parents had grown up in the 80s with no aircon in homes or cars, and were curious to know how we coped. I noted that I didn’t notice the heat until I was in my late teens when I started to discover aircon. Well worth reading this article!

Air conditioning changed both building design and people's active management of home temperatures. A return to houses designed for our climate can keep us comfortable and cut energy use and emissions.
