Some pics of some recent myenergi Zappi EV charger installs.

Zappi has 3 charging modes: eco, eco+ and fast. The eco & eco+ modes allow for charging exclusively from excess solar generation or a mixture of solar & grid. On fast mode the charger acts like any other "dumb" charger and will charge at maximum speed regardless of your solar generation.

The Zappi also has manual, smart or scheduled boost modes to ensure your car is charged when needed. With the smart boost mode you tell Zappi how much energy you want to add to your battery and by what time. It will operate in eco or eco+ mode (charging your car from excess solar) but then boost at full power if your desired battery level hasn't been achieved by green energy by the set time.

Enphase is a brand of micro-inverter. A micro-Inverter is a miniaturised inverter attached to each panel which provides individual panel optimisation.

With a standard central string inverter if one panel fails, is shaded or obstructed the whole system performs at the lowest peforming module. With micro-inverters each panel operates independently which provides more generation over the system's lifetime and allows individual panel monitoring making it easy to identify any issues.

Another big benefit of micro-inverters is the DC-AC conversion takes place at the panel. Therefore, the low-voltage DC never exceeds 60V versus up to 1000v in a string inverter system. This limits potential hazards such as arc-faulting and fire commonly associated with high-voltage string inverters. The cable from the array to the Enphase distribution board is also AC and protected by a safety switch compared to a 600V DC cable with a standard string inverter.
