Hamilton Bandicoots

Hamilton Bandicoots Welcome to Hamilton Bandicoots. Run by volunteers, this page offers the chance to lend a helping hand and aid in the longevity of our local wildlife and flora.

This Page was created as an interactive platform for the community to engage with the reserve and the progress of the Eastern Barred Bandicoot (EBB). We invite you to come celebrate the beauty of the landscape with nature walks, community areas and spotlighting tours. The wondeful parklands and Bandicoot enclosure can be accessed at any time by following the walking track via HIRL. Just continue

past the HIRL Offices and follow the track, or walk around the HIRL building and follow the Cyril Lampard Walk near the Northern end of the Buildings. You can see a map that had been posted on this page. You will find HIRL at 333 North Boundary Road Hamilton.

The eastern barred bandicoot is a small, omnivorous, nocturnal marsupial.

Unfortunately the mainland subspecies of eastern barred bandicoot is currently listed as extinct in the wild.

This little lady is a part of Zoos Victoria's captive breeding program and was snapped at Healesville Sanctuary.
