We're on the lookout for a new electrical apprentice. The position will initially be a 3 month paid trial as a trades assistant (TA) to make sure it is a career that the applicant wants to do and that we're a good fit for each other. Electricians are in high demand at the moment and in the future (I'm biased but it is a great career choice!). We're a small business so you won't just be a number to us you'll be part of a family.

Mainly specialising in fire protection and emergency evacuation systems. We also do exit emergency lighting, general power and lighting, data and much more.

The ideal applicant would have a license, white card and an interest in either fire protection or electrical.

$20 an hour (which doesn't sound it but it is good money for an apprentice. I was on $9 when I did mine)

Recently we were engaged to investigate a fault at a hospital. This is the mess that we found on arrival... Nothing was labelled, which made fault finding a challenge. It's sad to find installs with such low workmanship in the industry. It's now been brought up to a better standard. It reminded our team of diffusing a bomb!

Our team just drove 5 hours to mount Gambier to relocate some smoke detectors in a new BWS fit out to make it compliant. Long drive and a beautiful view. Who would want to work in an office when you can have views like this!! Now for the long drive home.

Safety Officer Scully is always trying to jump into the Ute and come to work with us. We tell her no, she isn't appropriately dressed. She's constantly stealing safety glasses, hard hats and vests out the Ute to chew up (or so we thought). She was actually taking them to wear them!

Alright you win, you can come with us and supervise. Audit us to make sure we're following our SWMS's and wearing the correct PPE!

Last week we had the SAMFS out to inspect the extension of the state basketball centre at Wayville Show Grounds. After 7 months on and off, our team managed to install and commission the new fire system which successfully passed the hot smoke and dry fire inspection.

The project scope of works included the following:

- New addressable smoke detectors
- New building Occupant Warning System
- Interface with 4x Smoke Exhaust Fans
- Interface with building access control system
- Interface with background music system
- Interface with roller doors and auto doors to supply make-up air for positive pressurisation
- Shut-down building gas supply in fire mode

- Install new FIP with OWS in extension
- Remove old EV100 OWS panel from existing building and integrate speaker circuits with new panel
- Remove old FIP from existing building and integrate conventional zone circuits with new FIP

We'd like to thank the efforts of Diverse Fire, Pike Constructions and all the trades on-site that worked together to meet the deadline in time.

Big shout out to Tom. This was his first job with us as he begins his career as an apprentice electrician. 6 months ago he started with us running cables a good 12m up in the air, fresh to the industry, having to be shown and told exactly what to do. He's 2nd fixed most of the 100 smoke detectors and speakers installed on this project, has terminated the FIP and now has an in-depth knowledge of the basics of 1st fixing, 2nd fixing and commissioning. Now he's got the knowledge of the basics and shown good initiative (whether it be by getting the tools/cable required or addressing detectors) he's proving what an asset he can be. Looking forward to working with him over the next 4 years to continue to expand his knowledge and watch him succeed!

MN Fire has just invested in a second set of drawers for our work vehicle. Benjamin Franklin said: "for every minute spent organising, an hour is earned". We couldn't agree more! Gone are the days of pulling everything out of the ute every time we need to get one small thing. Saving valuable time and money for our clients.

Scully was over the moon, she thought she got a new dog bed!

What a beautiful day it was working at the new State Basketball Centre at Wayville Show Grounds this morning! Pulling through the fire control cables for the 4x Smoke Exhaust Fans above the basketball courts. Our team has spent the last two weeks 1st and 2nd fixing the smoke detectors and occupant warning speakers above the courts. It's beginning to look like less of a construction site and more like a stadium. Looking forward to seeing the end result!

5 months after starting the business and we've finally got a page up and running. Still need to set up a website but we'll get there one day. Just need some spare time and to stop giving the company Labrador so many belly rubs
