FAQ What is the Best Watering System for Lawns?

An automatic watering system with sprinklers is the best watering system for lawns as it provides a more even application of water, compared to hand watering or portable sprinklers, and ultimately uses less water. Depending on the size of your lawn depends on the sprinklers. The small rotators are ideal for small to medium lawn areas and the larger rotors are best suited for larger lawn areas and acreage properties.

Some automatic watering systems are still allowed during the Level 1 water restrictions.

8 Things to Ask Your Irrigation Systems Contractor

The proper installation of an irrigation system is vital, and must be executed correctly from the beginning of the planning, right through to learning how and when to use it. Hiring the right irrigation systems contractor is the first step.

Here are 8 questions to ask your contractor to make the installation process smooth and hassle-free.
1. What brands of sprinklers, valves and controllers do you use?
2. Does your design take into account the different sun and shade areas of my garden when separating zones?
3. Have you measured the water pressure and volume of water at the source?
4. Have you allowed for a back-flow prevention device as per Sydney Water regulations?
5. Will all outdoor wiring be buried and protected?
6. Is the controller wifi enabled with automatic weather adjustments?
7. What is the warranty on the irrigation system and does it cover materials and labour?
8. Are you a licensed and insured irrigation installer?

Right now the water restrictions are at level 1 which means you can use your irrigation system if you have a controller and rain sensor. I've included a link to the full list of water restrictions and what you can and can’t do.

FAQ How Much Water Does My Lawn Need in Autumn?

How much you need to water your lawn in Autumn really depends on the climate you live in. However, no matter where you live, how you care for your lawn in autumn greatly differs from how you look after it during the hot months. Most likely, your lawn will not need as much water in autumn as it would during spring or summer. In fact, watering your lawn too much in autumn can actually damage your lawn more than help it. If you feed your lawn too much water, you could saturate its root system and inevitably damage your lawn. Generally speaking, during autumn you will want to water your lawn 2-3 times a week (depending on rainfall).
