Basements are high risk for moisture ingress. A waterproofing membrane and good drainage behind the wall is the standard but for extra peace of mind, a negative pressure or negative side waterproofing system applied to the inside of the wall is worth considering.

The particular product used here is Drizoro Maxseal Foundation, a cement based waterproofing system that can be used on the positive and negative side of basement and retaining walls.

How to spot a bad frame carpenter? Here’s one example…

In a multi storey home, if the framer doesn’t line up your upper and lower walls, particularly the stairway walls, this is what you get. A 10mm step from the lower wall to the upper wall. This could have been spotted and rectified well before the wall linings went on, but clearly it wasn’t. At this stage of the job, it’s no longer a question of how to fix it, but how to hide it.
