Breeding Season Alert! 🚨

During this time, magpies are naturally protective of their young and territories. Contrary to popular belief, their swooping behavior is not aggressive, but rather a defense mechanism. To peacefully coexist with these birds, WIRES offers expert tips. Click the link to learn more about magpie behavior and how to avoid encounters gone wrong 😊.

Learn about the behavior and protection of Australian magpies, their nesting habits, and how to safely coexist with them.

We recently visited 11 Acre Farm in Forrestdale for breakfast.

The farm grows their own organic produce in a farm to plate style in their cafe, 'The Good Paddock'.

The kids ran amuck in Cubby Lane and the huge truck before heading in and feeding the farm animals. Their favourites were the piglets and the donkey. Entry to the farm is free and it's only $5 entry to the farm animal area.

Support local and enjoy this permaculture style experience! 🐷🐴

Prune in June is almost over!

Inspect for Gall Wasp and cut away affected branches to manage galls effectively.

Pruning your citrus trees before June 30th allows you to dispose of the affected branches without the need for solarising the gall nodes.

Cover new growth with Kaolin clay to help keep those pesky wasps at bay this spring!

If you have a lot of galls return to the new growth, your neighbours might also have gall wasps in their citrus trees and not know about this pest.

Reach out if you need some help managing your citrus trees before the end of the month. This was my client's once blooming lemon tree that fell victim to the gall. Unfortunately, we had to prune nearly half the tree back but not to worry, it will come back quickly over spring.

Inspect, detect, dispose, deter!

Throwback to the Perth Garden Show on Friday the 17th of April. There were some fantastic displays ranging from hydroponics, waterwise and firewise gardening, natives, sensory gardens and aquaponics. The most interesting display was from Australian Plant Phenomics Network. They have partnered with UWA to research and improve the technology we use to grow crops on land and even in space! They utilise drones to assist in surveying large scale crops and have an even bigger one at the research lab.

The highlight of the show was listening to Hannah Moloney's segment on permaculture. She was happy to chat and signed both of her books for me. Safe to say I was fan girling just a bit.

I can't wait until next year's show!

Don't forget to plant your garlic!

A great tip is to plant on ANZAC Day and harvest on Remembrance Day.

You’ll know your garlic is ready when the stalks start to dry out. It grows the most in the last few weeks, so regular fertilisation is key!

Running low on organic fertiliser? Our next batch of worm brew will be ready in a couple of weeks. Place your orders now to ensure you don't miss out.
