💨 Prepare and be safe - damaging winds are forecast for large portions of the state from mid-late afternoon today.

With damaging winds there is potential for trees and powerlines to be brought down.

SES volunteer crews are prepared and ready to respond to incidents and it's important to be aware of the weather forecast in your area and to take steps to keep safe.

If you're planning on venturing into alpine areas there is potential of snow to around 800 metres about western, central, and southern Tasmania overnight, however, snowfall is not likely to settle at this time of the year.

Tasmania SES advises that people should:
• Supervise children closely.
• Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
• Manage pets and livestock.
• Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
• Be prepared in case of power outages and report any outages to TasNetworks on 132 004.
• Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving.

Our Bushfire Ready Neighbourhoods team is preparing to join Australian Red Cross to help empower local communities to get bushfire ready later this month.

The teams, joined by Bureau of Meteorology and Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service, held a workshop in Orford recently which was attended by over 40 community members who were provided information on knowing the risks and being prepared for bushfires in the local area.

The next Risk Roles Ready bushfire workshops will be held at:

*Swansea (including Dolphin Sands and Cranbrook) - Thursday 23 March at Swansea Municipal Office/Court House
*Bicheno (including Coles Bay) - Friday 12 May at Bicheno Memorial Hall

If you're in Swansea on 23 March or Bicheno on 12 May -come along to learn about knowing the risk and being prepared for bushfires and floods, and preparing survival plans.
