We take the trees that would otherwise not have had a home and thoughtfully mill them into the timber we use. We hand pick these boards for their qualities and build garden beds, sheds or homes that we are proud of.

Can I do better posts than my dad?? He spends lots of time creating these wonderful garden beds but never gets around to sharing them, so I’ll be giving it a go.

Shoutout to my grandma for Mother’s Day, this is from her garden! As a family we would visit her and tend to her garden. I loved doing this, she was always an amazing gardener. She no longer has this beautiful garden but I’ll always have the memories ❤️.

3 things about raised gardens that I wish all gardeners could experience

I ran into a customer a while back, he was with his Son in front of his house, and they invited me to come and look at their garden

They bought their beds back in 2017, so I was pretty excited to see how they were holding up after 8 years.

They were doing well but a few things really struck me:

1. Dovetail joints do last longer
I knew it from past experience but you can see so clearly in the picture, the bolted timber has rotted away from the bolts. All of these beds were put in at the same time. Where the bolts go through, the water gets in and sits and then the timber will rot.

2. A well-planned garden pays for itself
With some enthusiasm, I was told how the beds have repaid their cost. They have been growing crops like garlic, chillies and herbs and when you get a bumper crop of these, they are worth lots.

3. A garden is great for kids and adults alike
Their son has grown up with the garden and now he’s passionate. While i was there he was constantly going and harvesting things to share with me. You can see the collection that i left with

Happy gardening.

I’m super exited!

This is Giant Kelp, grown by Southern Ocean Carbon in a trial to clean nutrients from water and sequester carbon.

We’re taking it to do our own trials, making biochar from it with the New Black Biochar and including it in composting for garden bed soils.

Rising Above the Heavy Clay

Since moving in a few years ago, Andy has been busy turning his previously self-sufficient property into something a bit easier to manage.

He’s been buying garden beds and timber from us for years, but this was the first time I got to see the incredible space he’s created. Andy shared how the raised beds have made such a difference—far easier to work with than the heavy clay soil. Over time, he’s kept adding more. You can spot the older, weathered beds nestled among the fresh ones.

I couldn’t help but smile when Andy mentioned he and his wife entered some of their produce and crafts into the local show—and won prizes! Andy is an academic by profession and isn’t someone you’d expect to see lining up jars of jam to be judged.

(That said, it reminded me of my father, who’s always said how he wants to win both the shearing and cake-baking competitions at the local show—a story for another day!)

It’s been a joy to see Andy’s vision come to life, one season, one bed, and one prize-winning jar at a time.

From root invasion to wicking system salvation!

After years of tree roots stealing the life from our garden beds, we’d had enough. It was time to take action—and retrofit a wicking system into our dovetail garden beds to keep the roots out for good. What started as a problem-solving mission turned into a family project full of laughs, teamwork, and a few surprises… like finding an Inchman’s (bull ant) nest and its queen!

We removed the roots, installed the wicking system, and now our garden beds are thriving, hydrated, and totally protected from sneaky intruders. It’s easy to reclaim your garden!

We supply wicking system kits to suit our Dovetail Timber beds and the info so you can do it yourself with ease, in any garden.

We love to help create gardens that thrive.

Email us at [email protected] for more information on wicking systems or our garden beds.

Here's a quick before and after a few months of growing and harvesting at Bettina's garden in Sandy Bay. I love the mottled fading of colour in the timber as the tannins are washed out and the sun does it's thing
