“Sobering Dust & Chasing Dawns”
[ A poem from our Bush Tribe member, Ty, in honour of Men’s Mental Health Month. ]
One was too many
yet a thousand was never enough,
Up until this last 12 months
the journey has been pretty rough
Alcohol runs like a noose in my bloodline,
Now I’m making my living chasing bovine.
This war between my ears sometimes gets the better of me
Luckily staying sober keeps me away from the wrong end of a guilty plea.
You used to be able to find me by following a trail of bottles and cans
With Steph’s help I took a different path and changed my plans
I spent nearly ten years of my life fighting with the bottle on the shelf
Now I face the daily battle of dealing with myself
Unfortunately I’ve buried a heap of mates since I was a teen
But I lost more getting myself sober and clean, which has me questioning why the world is so mean….
Now I do my best to travel this country and carve out a living working with a horse and hound
Thankful for my second chance at life with this path I’ve found
So hopefully this helps someone that’s in a battle with their addiction or brain
One day I hope the storm in your head runs outta rain…. “
