Autumn Lawn Tips from Rivendale Turf

Summer’s wrapped up and the cooler months are creeping in – which means it’s time to give your lawn a bit of TLC before winter kicks in. Your grass has been through a hot, dry few months, so now’s the perfect time to help it bounce back and get prepped for the cooler weather ahead.

Here’s a few simple things you can do this autumn:

• Aerate the soil – After a summer full of backyard fun, your soil can get compacted. Aerating helps oxygen, water and nutrients reach the roots.
• Tidy up shady spots – Less sunlight in winter means more risk of damage. Trim back trees where you can and keep leaves raked up.
• Fertilise – This is the big one! An autumn fertiliser helps your grass stay strong and healthy through winter. Go for a slow-release option to keep it fed for weeks.
• Knock out summer weeds – Got crowsfoot or creeping oxalis popping up? Now’s the time to treat them before they leave bare patches in winter.

Give your lawn a little love now and it’ll thank you in spring
