Check this out WA 👀

This morning the 21st of March sees Narelle sitting in the Gulf of Carpenteria as a category 2 cyclone, and is forecast to increase in strength to a Cat 3 prior to an early morning landfall north of Groote island tomorrow.

As you can see by the Multi-model Grand Ensemble which takes into account ALL possible models both AI and physics based, the westerly track is locked in. Once again it needs to be noted that there is a FLOOD WATCH current for northern parts of the Kimberley. The track has been dragged slightly south making the risk for significant flooding in the Northern Kimberley a real threat. The watch will be updated by the Bureau during the course of the day, however we can see totals of 200mm+ possible during the period of Monday/Tuesday.

The overall track potential has seen a realignment south east towards the WA coastline in the more recent ensembles. This has increased the chances of a landfall event from this system. This is due to the mid level ridge eroding more quickly over the course of Friday/Saturday next week, allowing the system to take a SW then southerly turn.

We will continue to monitor this evolving system for WA, to make sure we remain data-driven and weather-ready.
