Week 2: As we continue our journey through National Safe Work Month, this week, we’re focusing on a critical yet often overlooked aspect of workplace safety: Psychosocial Hazards.

Work-related psychological injuries often have longer recovery times, higher costs, and require more time away from work. In 2021-22 alone, serious mental health claims resulted in 584,029 working weeks of lost time. These injuries affect not only the individual but also the broader workplace and organisational productivity.

Take Action

Proactively managing psychosocial hazards helps create a supportive and productive work environment for all employees. This week, we encourage everyone to engage in discussions about mental health and well-being, identify potential hazards, and contribute to building a safer workplace.

If you have any concerns or ideas about how we can better manage psychosocial hazards, don’t hesitate to raise them during team meetings or SafeTea chats.

Let’s work together to make our workplace safer—both physically and mentally!

We are now in week 3 of National Safe Work Month! The photos below have a recap of Week 1’s focus on the fundamentals of good Work Health and Safety (WHS) practices. These basics are essential for everyone to understand, as they are the foundation of a safe and healthy work environment.

SafeTea Chats: Let’s Make WHS Part of Everyday Conversations

As part of National Safe Work Month, we encourage you to engage in a “SafeTea chat”—a quick and simple conversation about WHS fundamentals with your team. Let’s make WHS a part of our daily routine and ensure everyone understands their role in keeping the workplace safe.

This week, take time to reinforce these fundamentals with your team. Safety is not a once-a-year discussion—it’s something we practice every day!

Congratulations to Levi Duffy-Marsh who has completed his plumbing apprenticeship and has been signed off as a qualified tradesman. Levi is a local Big Rivers region boy who came to us at the start of his 3rd year of his apprenticeship and has fitted in extremely well with the team. He has worked extremely hard to complete his apprenticeship and deserves the accolades. AEA is proud to support our apprentices as they work through their time and are always looking for more.

October is National Safe Work Month, and AEA Group is proud to join the initiative to promote safer workplaces for everyone. This year's focus includes important topics that impact all industries:

· Week 1: Work Health and Safety Fundamentals
This week focuses on the core principles of workplace safety, emphasising the importance of creating a strong safety culture, understanding basic safety procedures, and ensuring everyone knows their roles and responsibilities in maintaining a safe work environment.

· Week 2: Psychosocial Hazards
This week addresses the psychological and social risks in the workplace, such as stress, bullying, and mental health issues. It's about identifying these hazards early, fostering a supportive environment, and ensuring the well-being of all employees.

· Week 3: Risk Management Fundamentals
In this week, we will explore the critical processes of identifying, assessing, and controlling risks. By understanding the fundamentals of risk management, we can take proactive steps to prevent incidents before they occur.

· Week 4: Musculoskeletal Injuries
The focus of this week is on preventing injuries related to movement, posture, and physical work. We'll look at strategies to reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, such as ergonomic improvements, safe lifting techniques, and minimising repetitive strain.

In addition to these weekly themes, AEA Group will take a proactive approach by releasing a safety alert each week, focusing on a new risk that is highly relevant to our industry. These alerts will delve into the specific hazards we face, providing insights on identifying the risks and outlining practical controls to mitigate them. Each alert will be tailored to ensure that our workforce is equipped with the knowledge and tools needed to manage these risks effectively, reinforcing our commitment to safety at every level of our operations.

At AEA Group, we are committed to continually improving our processes and procedures, ensuring that all risks are identified and controlled. Our main objective is to ensure that every person involved in our operations returns home safely to their families at the end of each day. This means prioritising the health and safety of our workforce in everything we do. Whether it's identifying potential hazards, implementing effective controls, or fostering a culture of safety awareness, our commitment is unwavering. We understand that behind every worker is a family that relies on their well-being, and this drives us to continually improve our safety processes, ensuring that no task is more important than protecting the lives of our people. Safety isn't just a goal—it's a responsibility we take to heart.

Join us as we celebrate National Safe Work Month and reinforce our commitment to safety in every aspect of our operations. Together, we can create a safer, healthier workplace for everyone.
