6 Popular Retaining Wall Types Used in Australian Landscaping

Retaining walls were created for the sole purpose of holding back the soil, preventing erosion and separating areas typically on a slope, whether steep or gradual.

Over time, they’ve been developed and progressed to be aesthetically pleasing too – with multiple ways of building and presenting them in the garden.

Used across commercial and residential landscapes, large and small, retaining walls come in various different types and materials, dependent on their purpose and need.

Here are six of the most popular retaining walls used in Australian landscaping:

Retaining Wall & Drainage Redesign – Blue Mountains

Our client had ongoing issues with water pooling near the side of their house, worsened by runoff from a neighbouring slope. We worked with local engineers and installed a French drain to safely divert the water.

To further manage runoff, we built a retaining wall and garden bed, adding structure and improving drainage. We finished the space with a crushed quartz pathway and natural schist steppers for a clean, elegant look.

The result is not only functional and structurally sound, but also beautifully transformed, leaving our client thrilled with the outcome.

TESTIMONIAL -

“I highly recommend working with Michael and Wattle and Stone team. From initial consultation and proposal, to guidance on design and the work being carried out, Michael and his team were professional, precise and polite. The stand out for me was the commitment and follow through. I was kept informed on every step of the job and Michael went above and beyond to connect me with council requirements and an engineer. This crew are professional and do what they say they are going to do. I can't recommend enough, 5 star experience.”
