The Silversword shrub only grows on the top of mountains in Hawaii at between 1,500 to 2,500m. It only flowers once in its life, at somewhere between 10 and 30 years old. The flower can grow as tall as 3 metres and within weeks it goes to seed and the entire plant dies. Both fascinating and beautiful.
