⚠️Incident eAlert: Electrical Fatality at Worksite
On Tuesday 30th of January 2024, a tragic incident occurred around 11:30 am at a residence in NSW. A young tradesman in his twenties, identified as a refrigeration mechanic, tragically lost his life due to electrocution. The NSW Paramedics declared the young man deceased at the scene.
Safety Actions Required
SafeWork NSW is conducting investigations into the incident. The NECASafe team urges all employers and workers to always take precaution including;
✅Confirm that all electrical systems are fully de-energised and isolated prior to commencing any work.
✅ Refrain from engaging in rescue efforts without appropriate safety equipment and professional training.
✅ Report all electrical hazards immediately to your direct supervisors.
✅ Ensure a trained safety observer is overseeing any work that involves electrical systems.
✅ Use insulated gloves if working on or near energised electrical equipment.
✅ In the event of electrical shock, seek prompt medical intervention.
✅ Adherence to strict workplace safety protocols is mandatory, including the utilisation of prescribed protective gear.

The in-house NECASafe team advocates for heightened electrical safety awareness and will be conducting Electrical Safety Survival Toolbox Talks across NSW. These free sessions are essential for both technicians and apprentices, providing critical knowledge on preventing electric shock and responding effectively to incidents.
