Hands down the best capsicums (sweet peppers) I've ever grown! 💜
Purple Beauty from The Diggers Club. Seeds sown inside the house in early June, planted out in spring.
Absolute rippers compared to my California Wonders and Giant Bells, which have done fairly poorly and been attacked by pests.
Roasting this lot, to skin and freeze for later as there's loads more coming 😀

The pests may have destroyed my glass gem corn, but I did get to the sweetcorn last week and harvested before they got at that too.
Lots of shucking was done, before a massive blanch and freeze afternoon in the kitchen 🌽💛

Reistomate, aka, travellers tomato. How cool is this!
My first time growing these from seeds shared by a lovely member of my crop swap group.
These are an unusual Peruvian heirloom tomato, made up of clusters of smaller tomatoes that pull apart to reveal individual cherry size fruit, each with its own skin, seeds and core.
This was a variety I grew this year simply for fun. Because what's gardening life without a little bit of silliness and fun 😉😊

A random this morning; and check out that watermelon coming along nicely 😁🍉 Silly me direct sowed these watermelon and the tags have all faded or are gone all together... I know it's a pink one but 🤷‍♀️😆

When we first moved in here three and a half years ago, we found many tiny little trees in pots scattered around the place. We picked out the five healthiest and planted them out in our front paddock, certain they were stone fruit, fairly sure by the leaves they were nectarines.
One died, three blossomed and started growing fruit. Two of those lost their small nectarines in a storm; and the last one produced these. They look a bit like apricots, but they are definitely a yellow peach, but not like a usual peach that I've eaten before.
Very weird 🤷‍♀️ but very tasty. Anyone have any idea of the variety?

My first corn of the season 😁
This is my third season of growing a large corn crop; and the third time it hasn't disappointed me. We love sweet corn, so each year I plant our favourite from Sweet Corn Snow Gold Bicolour F1. As it's a hybrid corn, I can't save and replant the kernels, but for the cost of two packets of seed, it's absolutely worth it!
I learnt a lot about corn from following other IG gardeners early on in my adventure, so its only fitting that I share what I know here, in the hope that someone else may learn some tips; and go on to grow their own big beautiful corn cobs.
🌽 is wind pollinated. Each tiny little silk is responsible for each little kernel. So plant corn in blocks rather than rows. If you're not fortunate to have the space for a large crop, some assistance may be necessary to 'encourage' the pollen in the tassels to float down to the silks. (There are heaps of good YouTubes to show you several methods for hand pollinating)
🌽 is hungry and thirsty, I prepared my bed with LOTS of compost and commercially purchased cow, sheep and chook poo; and have fed a few times during growing with both liquid and pellet organic fertilisers. And water regularly!
🌽 I've had best success with direct sowing my corn, but be aware that birds love the kernels. So I low net the bed until the plants are established enough to withstand bird attacks! I do also sow a punnet at the same time so I can fill in any gaps if a seed doesn't germinate (my OCD likes neat rows 😆)

Today is brought to you by the colour purple. Lebanese Eggplant (Aubergine) and Purple Beauty Capsicum from
Capsicum are notoriously slow, so I seed mine in June in the house; however I'm sure this is the earliest I've actually harvested one. Maybe a testament the the exceptionally warm weather we've been having lately, after such a mild start to the season 💜
- I forgot to add the purple king beans I picked 🤦🏻‍♀️

I finally got around to pulling the last of my hardneck garlic this evening, probably a bit late, but that's how I'm rolling at the moment.
Spanish Creole and Silverskin out, with the French Creole that was pulled a few weeks ago cleaned up to store.
These are the last of the five varieties I planted last year, a crop only about two thirds the size of the previous year, but still more than enough for us; and to share.
I like the hardneck for its ability to store way longer than the Melbourne Market and Italian Purple softnecks that I grow (I actually still have some left from last year) and its beautiful strong taste.
Three years now that I haven't bought garlic = winning

December has been a whirlwind of work, Christmas preparations and being a taxi for my daughters, but I've finally slowed down!
The garden, despite my neglect and the current philosophy of survival of the fittest, has been good to us, with daily pickings, some firsts (my first kohlrabi) and an extraordinary amount of berries, with raspberries, Loganberries, Youngberries and strawberries being picked, eaten, frozen and traded several times a week. The cucumbers have gone mad; and let's not even talk about the zucchinis 😆 The beans have taken off, most of the garlic harvested (still have some hardneck in the ground) and my first tomato is finally coming (a Jaune Flamme)
I hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas festive season; and i will take my opportunity now, to wish you all the happiest of New Years.

Do you have something in your garden that rarely makes it back up to the house?

I have about five or six small blueberry (climate appropriate) varieties. They don't produce huge amounts yet, but by having different types, I find they ripen at different times. So there's a continuous handful of garden lollies over many months 💙
