Recently we have had the pleasure to be a part of a research project in the Yarra Ranges. We were installing artificial hollows and nest boxes for the greater gliders. These species are endangered, with the new installations we aim to increase the population within the area. We worked on the Eucalyptus regnans species along side of experienced ecologists to understand the requirements of the greater glider habitat. This includes the specific size of each hollow, and the location to near by roads and walk ways. Solar powered cameras were installed with motion detection to monitor the hollows to hopefully capture a successful outcome. Thank you to everyone involved, It was an honour to be a part of this project and look forward to more experiences like this in the near by future.

Pruning deadwood from this Narrow Leafed Ash, (Fraxinus angustifolia) to monitor the Dieback rates. Dieback is common within the Fraxinus species, but with the correct management plans these trees can be retained for many years to come.

Using our Avant articulated loader to clear and reopen fire tracks on a former forestry site now being rehabilitated back to native bushland.

Reliable access is essential for restoration works and ongoing management, and the Avant’s off-road capability allows us to move efficiently across rough terrain while transporting greenwaste over long distances.

With the right equipment, hands-on experience, and a focus on long-term land stewardship, it’s clear why Arbscape is the number one choice for arboricultural services.

Preparing another tree for habitat on a bushland property.

Here is the team recently rigging the upper canopy and setting up for precision hollow creation using Arborgrub tool.

After this we retained selected branches and shaped them with coronet cuts to form natural perches, giving wildlife safer access to the new hollows.

Thoughtful habitat work like this helps provide long-term nesting opportunities.

Along the Tamar River, we’ve been working to create new wildlife habitat within an old Eucalyptus viminalis — a tree species highly valued for the hollows it forms and the life it supports. Although this area is earmarked for clearing once a new planting project is established, we’re ensuring wildlife has safe refuge in the meantime.

Just three days after installing a nesting hollow, two Green Rosellas moved in — a clear sign that these efforts are making a difference for local species even during periods of change.

Our Avant 635 articulated loader proved invaluable during the careful removal of this large European ash (Fraxinus excelsior) affected by ash dieback (Hymenoscyphus fraxineus) Unfortunately, the disease had severely weakened the tree’s structure, leaving removal as the only safe option. While it’s always difficult to take down a mature tree, our team approached the work with care and respect for the site. The Avant’s precision and power ensured the process was completed safely and efficiently.
