HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DERRYN!

10 years deep at Yards Apart and still keeping the rest of us in line… just. As our supervisor, Derryn’s got the eye for detail, the patience of a saint (needed with this crew), and somehow still manages to make it all look easy.

A true pillar of the Yards Apart team – and not just because he’s been around long enough to remember how everything used to be done.

We celebrated the only way we know how – knocking off for a well-earned pub lunch. No tools, no turf, just a feed and a cold one.

Happy birthday mate – wouldn’t be the same without you!

This property in Albury is doing a lot… without trying too hard.

That crepe myrtle (Alex’s all-time favourite for a reason) bringing the structure and shade, buffalo turf keeping things lush underfoot, and a water feature pot ticking away with that soft running water that just makes a space feel finished.

It’s neat, it’s calm, and it’s the kind of front yard that makes people slow down as they walk past… even if they pretend they’re not looking.

Simple, balanced, and quietly showing off!

Not all paths are created equal…

This one out in Rutherglen is part of a bigger project we’ve been chipping away at — and it’s a good example of keeping things interesting without overcomplicating it.

Recycled yellow solid bricks for the border (plenty of character, and saving a few good bricks from retirement), paired with Haven flamed limestone pavers through the middle to keep it clean and sharp.

Old meets new, bit of texture, bit of contrast — and a whole lot better than plain concrete doing nothing for nobody.

Simple idea, done properly. That’s the stuff.

Today was International Women’s Day and here at Yards Apart we’re proud to have women involved in different parts of the business.

Mya is currently completing her landscaping apprenticeship and getting stuck into the hands-on side of the work, learning the trade and helping bring our projects to life.

Behind the scenes, Meredith helps keep things organised, runs the socials, and supports the day-to-day running of the business.

And while Mya’s learning the trade on site, Meredith continues the ongoing challenge of keeping Alex organised… which may or may not be a full-time job.

Landscaping might still be a male-dominated industry, but it’s great to see more women getting involved, building careers and shaping outdoor spaces.

Happy International Women’s Day.

Big happy birthday to Panda

One of our third-year apprentices and living proof that enthusiasm can sometimes outweigh coordination.

We wrapped up the week the right way - knocking off, cracking a cold one, and celebrating the big fella getting another year older (not necessarily wiser, but we’re optimistic).

Panda brings the vibes, the questionable one-liners, and just enough tool-handling ability to keep things interesting. Would the job sites be quieter without him? Absolutely. Better? Debatable.

All jokes aside, we’re stoked to have him on the team and watching him step up more each year. Even if we do have to keep a close eye on him around the laser level.

Happy birthday mate - try not to injure yourself blowing out the candles

Ohhh that storm yesterday did not come to play. Albury Wodonga copped an absolute belting yesterday and gravel driveways all over the place are feeling it.

This one we quoted today is a proper casualty - ruts, washouts, the lot. Nothing our Harley rake and a bit of know how can’t fix though.

Plan of attack:

- Harley rake to level it all out and pull it back into shape
- Roll and compact it properly
- Leave it super sweet and smooth again

Your driveway shouldn’t feel like a 4WD test track just because we had one wild storm.

If it is is looking worse for wear, shoot us a message and we’ll come clean her up.

- Sound UP... a little landscaping ASMR -
This little moment was filmed just before Christmas, early one morning in West Albury, making sure everything was dialled in before summer really cranked the heat.

Alex was out doing an irrigation check (because future-you lawns don’t survive on hope alone), making sure the sprinklers were working properly and the Kikuyu was set up to handle what’s coming.

Add in magpies calling it in and that sprinkler ASMR… honestly, this is about as calm as landscaping gets. Before the flies, the heat and the chaos hit.

Set it up early, water smart, and your lawn will thank you later.

Happy 40th to the big boss, Alex!

Forty looks pretty good on you… even if today was more about recovery than celebrations. After a solid party last night, today was very much a write-off - naps, hydration, and moving as little as humanly possible.

Official takeaway: all 40th birthday parties should include a water flight. Non-negotiable. Lesson learned.

Alex might be low-key about it, but he’s genuinely one of the good ones - bloody talented landscaper who puts his heart into everything he builds.

Hope today was exactly what the body ordered. We’re back into it on Monday (thankfully with some cooler weather on the way - shoutout to the birthday gods).

Happy birthday, mate. Tools were down today… reality resumes tomorrow.

Check out these magnolia crazy pave steppers — looking slick and sturdy as ever. We paired them with geohex grid and stone infill for the path, and laid a decomposed granite hardstand on the nature strip that’s ready for whatever gets parked there.

And yes… that hairy plant you’re giving side-eye to in the photo?
That absolute legend is officially called cousin it. And no, we’re not kidding — Google it.

Sometimes landscaping is all about the details — the big stuff, the materials that hold up, and the quirky bits that make you smile when you look twice.

Hope everyone had an absolute ripper Australia Day — sunshine, cold drinks, a snag in bread (onions… obviously), and plenty of time spent keeping cool. Days like that are exactly what projects like this Table Top pool are made for, with the porphyry stone crazy paving doing what it does best while families kick back and enjoy summer.

Now… deep breath. We’re back on the tools tomorrow and staring down a stupidly busy week ahead. The diary is full, the temp is over 40 for the.whole.week…!

Pray for us!
