The start of an open gable carport.
Especially in coastal areas, it is wise to consider how long building materials will last and if you can factor in easy replacement or reconditioning to your design.
Here I made steel columns to assist timber poles with strength. The steel columns can be removed, re painted and put back in place without any hassle.
The timber posts will last well with the parts exposed to weather wrapped in stainless steel flashing.
They truly have their own metal roof structure to protect them from moisture, not just a coat of paint.
