I’ve been fortunate to work with some amazing clients over the last few years, but to Tam and Graham: thank you for trusting us with your forever home.

Building a custom home takes a lot of trust, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. Every home we build is a prototype, something that’s never been built before, so there are always challenges along the way. With great communication and a shared vision to create something truly special, it’s all worth it in the end.

This snippet makes the tough times in business worthwhile. It fills my cup and drives me to deliver excellence for every client.

These builds are never the work of one person. It takes a team and a group of trades who share the same values. Thank you to all the trades and suppliers involved in our lake house build.

A house can be finished long before it truly feels like home.

That comes later.

In the first morning light across the floor. The familiar sound of someone moving through the hallway. The place everyone naturally gathers. The routines that slowly become part of the rhythm of life.

Over time, those moments settle into the spaces around them.

And that’s what we think about when we build.

Not just how a home will look on completion day, but what it will come to hold in the years that follow.

If you’re thinking about building, begin with a conversation about the life you want that home to make room for.

The finished result might look effortless, but getting there is all in the details.

Every measurement, adjustment and decision matters and building a home is no different.

What people eventually see is the finished space, but behind it are countless decisions, careful planning and attention to the details that bring everything together.

Because a home isn’t just defined by how it looks when it’s finished but by the thought and care that went into creating it.

Every welcome begins here.
Every goodbye too.
A front door can seem like a simple part of a home, but there’s a lot that goes into getting it right.

How it sits within the façade, how the materials come together, how it feels when you walk up to it - all of those details matter.

At Hateley, even the simplest parts of a build are thought through carefully, because sometimes they’re the parts that end up telling the story best.

A finished home is still only the beginning.

At Dalhousie, the timber will continue to weather, the landscape will grow around it and the light across the Goulburn River will change with every season. But the real story begins with everything that happens next.

The slow mornings on the verandah. The long lunches. Family gathering by the river. The everyday routines that, over time, turn a beautifully designed house into a home filled with memories.

Some scenes lasted only a few seconds in the finished film.

Behind them were changing light, long set-ups, quiet waits and dozens of small decisions made to help each moment feel effortless.

It’s often the work you don’t see that shapes what you eventually do.

A small look behind the frame of our new brand campaign.

A house starts with function, but the best homes are shaped around the way they’ll actually be lived in.

It begins with plans, structure and the details that make everything work. Then the spaces start to take shape, the house comes together and eventually, people make it their own.

That’s the part you can’t draw on a plan.

The routines, the gatherings and the everyday moments that turn a well-built house into a home.

Built by Hateley, for the life that happens within it.

Building a home for the first time can come with a lot of unknowns.

For Jacqui and Jess, part of the process was learning that they didn’t need to have every answer from day one. They could leave some of those decisions with Grant, trust his experience and shape the home together as the build progressed.

Because creating a home isn’t just about choosing finishes or following a plan. It’s about feeling confident in the people helping bring it to life.

And sometimes, the best homes come from knowing what matters to you and trusting the right person with the rest.

Every home holds a different story.

A hallway remembers the footsteps that passed through it. A doorway, the countless arrivals home. A quiet corner, the conversations, pauses and ordinary moments that once unfolded there.

Across every Hateley home, the architecture may be different, but what gives it meaning is the same the life lived within it.

Because eventually, a home becomes more than a collection of spaces.
It becomes an archive of memories.
