Itβs a step most people never see, but it matters ποΈ Before any soil goes in, the back of a retaining or planter wall gets a waterproof membrane applied.
Without it, moisture from the soil pushes through the concrete over time, leaving stains, efflorescence (that white chalky bloom) and eventually damage to the finished face of the wall π§π§±
A membrane, backed by a drainage sheet that protects it and channels water down to the drain, keeps moisture moving where it should and the wall looking the way it did on day one.
