The 15 August 2022 marked the final day for the Cambodia Australia Agriculture Value Chain (CAVAC) program. Last week, representatives from Australia’s DFAT, Royal Government of Cambodia, academia and the private sector came together to celebrate the achievements of the program, which was founded on a locally led and working in partnership approach.

During its time, CAVAC transformed the agriculture sector in Cambodia by building irrigation schemes, introducing new seed varieties and crop care products, setting up quality certification systems, modernising farming practices, supporting agribusinesses product development and setting the foundations for Cambodia’s first agri-food industrial park and trade investment desk.

While the program ends, the legacy will continue under the Australian Government’s new investments. We wish the CAVAC team, many of whom are joining these new programs, best of luck!

Well maintained road networks are important for economic growth across Indonesia, and particularly in popular tourist spots like Mount Bromo in East Java. Through our Indonesia Australia Partnership for Infrastructure (KIAT) team, Cardno International Development (www.cddid.com) is helping to put in place approaches with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing that incentivise high-quality road construction by regional governments. Following successful demonstration of what incentives can achieve under the DFAT-funded Provincial Road Improvement and Maintenance (PRIM) pilot, Government of Indonesia has taken this approach to scale through its Program Hibah Jalan Daerah, working with up to 21 new regional governments using a similar approach. The Ministry recently welcomed the Australian Embassy to review progress in the Mount Bromo tourist region (https://www.instagram.com/reel/CflgIYrAVy6/?igshid=YmMyMTA2M2Y%3D)
