Sorrento Hub Coworkspace our home base

The Future of Work - Regional and Remote. We'd see them pop up everywhere in the city, the Co-work spaces and then Sorrento got its Sorrento HUB Coworkspace & Eventspace, and then came Covid. Early on, pundits were saying Covid would see the demise of the co-work space as people didn't want to "share." Fast forward 7 months and remote working is here to stay with popularity again for co-working flexibility compared to high rise office towers. Sorrento News caught up with Tracey O'Connor, Co-Founder of the Sorrento Hub on the eve of its re-opening.
"What we've learnt from our coworking community here at the Sorrento HUB Coworkspace is that remote working done well is often a fluid combination of many parts. It could look something like some time spent in the office, a few days at a coworkspace, a day or two at home and maybe a cafe meeting here and there.
Many of us didn't know that we could work remotely. Maybe our role seemed unsuited, our organisation unwilling or it has never occurred to us. Now that we know we can, the dreaded commute and 9 to 5 grind suddenly seems impractical and downright unappealing. The future of work was already on the move pre-COVID thanks to technology making our workplaces more flexible, urban design moves to decentralise the city, organisations realising less floor space saves money and a mindset shift that values a flexible approach to work.
We all have things that we've learnt throughout this period of disruption and massive change. The conversations we're having around the future of work is about time. Time to curate a work : life balance that includes more time for the important people, time for wellbeing and for time to seem spacious. We're hearing about the absolute joys of a local life, the importance of connecting with and supporting the local community. We're hearing about time well spent, not on long commutes, too many meetings but on solid productive work.We created the Sorrento HUB Coworkspace because we know it's not always easy to live regionally and earn a living, often we're lured back to the metropolitan area. What we now know is that the status quo has been disrupted. That's why we want to broaden the conversation beyond WFH to help people capitalise on the recent and profound remote working learnings, to help them design their best work life down here on the southern peninsula," says Tracey.
