A big thank you to everyone back home in Australia who reached out after my recent post offering rugby boots, jerseys and sporting equipment for the young people I met in Fiji. 🇦🇺🇫🇯

The response was fantastic.

As the offers started coming in, though, we quickly realised that collecting, sorting and getting all that equipment over to Fiji was becoming a fairly big logistical exercise and potentially costing more than the gear itself.

So rather than overcomplicate it, we decided to do something that could make an immediate difference.

We donated funds directly to support the Under 16s at Ratu Navula College, helping families with uniforms and school merchandise and allowing the money to be spent locally where it is needed.

I was incredibly humbled to receive this certificate of appreciation from the school, but the recognition isn’t what this is about.

It’s about giving young people a hand and hopefully making things just that little bit easier for families doing their best.

There’s also something I really like about the money being spent locally supporting the kids while also putting the money back into the Fijian community.

To everyone in Australia who messaged, offered equipment or simply said, “How can I help?” — thank you. The willingness to get behind these kids was pretty special.

And I don’t think this will be the last chapter. I’d like to continue building the relationship with Ratu Navula College and see where we can help in a practical and sustainable way going forward.

Sometimes the simplest solution is the best one.

What a night celebrating the very best of Victoria’s building and construction industry.

Congratulations to every winner and finalist at the 2026 Master Builders Victoria Excellence in Construction Awards. 🏆

As I said on the night, excellence is never achieved by one person alone. It is built by skilled teams working together with professionalism, dedication and pride.

Every leader started somewhere, and many progressed because someone gave them encouragement, an opportunity and shared their experience.

Now it is our responsibility to do the same by continuing to invest in our apprentices, young tradies and future leaders.

Well done to everyone recognised and to every person behind these outstanding projects. You should all be proud.

Winter tradition update, the capocollo and pancetta have finally dried.

And I’ve got to say… they’ve come up beautifully.

This is the part where all the waiting, seasoning, tying, hanging and checking finally pays off. No shortcuts. Just old-school tradition, patience, and a bit of knowledge passed down over the years.

There’s something special about making this sort of food yourself. It’s not just the taste, it’s the process, the memories, the laughs, and then being able to share it with family and friends.

Now, for everyone who put their name down as official taste testers… hit me up.

And for the record, I’m only sharing because apparently eating all of this myself is “not ideal for cholesterol.”

Doctor’s orders… sort of.

You never know what a simple conversation can lead to.

Over the past week, while spending some time in Fiji, I had the privilege of meeting some incredible people. Local workers, builders and families who have very little, but an incredible work ethic, a willingness to learn and smiles that never seem to disappear.

One conversation that will stay with me was with a young mum who was 38 weeks pregnant, with three children at home while her husband was away working to make ends meet. I decided to help where I could.

A few days later she sent me a message that simply said:

“Thank you for supporting me and my family… My son loved his rugby boots. Thank you and God bless you always.” ❤️

Those words were a reminder that what might seem like a small gesture to one person can make a real difference to another.

I also spent time speaking with people in the construction industry. Many shared their dream of one day working in Australia, learning new skills and creating better opportunities for their families. I had the opportunity to meet with my counterpart in Fiji, where we discussed how professional standards and licensing could help strengthen their building industry in the future.

Then, every afternoon, I’d watch kids playing rugby with unbelievable passion. Many didn’t have proper jerseys, boots or sporting equipment, but they never stopped smiling or enjoying the game.

That inspired me to do something practical.

Over the coming months, I’m going to collect rugby jerseys, boots and sporting equipment to send back to Fiji. If your kids have outgrown their gear, or your sporting club or business would like to help, I’d love to hear from you.

Sometimes, creating opportunity starts with something much smaller than we realise.

Winter tradition is back.

Salami, capocollo, pancetta… mixing, seasoning, tying, hanging and waiting.

It’s not just food. It’s family, patience, old-school knowledge and skills being passed down the proper way.

A bit like building — the recipe matters, the process matters, and if you rush it, you’ll know about it later.

Best part is sharing it with friends and family.

Also, I’m officially taking expressions of interest from taste testers… because apparently eating it all myself is “bad for cholesterol.” Who knew.

Nothing better than tradition, good food and good people.

As we come to the end of the financial year, I’ve been thinking about what leadership really means in our industry.

It’s not just about the jobs, the numbers, or the titles.

It’s about who we help bring through.

An apprentice.
A labourer.
A young supervisor.
Another builder.
Someone with the right attitude who just needs a bit of guidance.

Most of us had someone give us advice, take a call, open a door, or have an honest conversation with us when we needed it.

Now it’s our turn to pay it forward.

Sometimes mentoring is just a coffee, a phone call, a site walk, or a straight conversation.

And if you’re retired or stepping back, your experience still matters. The next generation needs it.

If we want to leave this industry better than we found it, we all need to play a part.

Proud to support the important work of St Kilda Community Housing.

This organisation is close to my heart, having had some involvement with them over the years and seeing firsthand the difference they make for vulnerable people in our local community.

People like Patty remind us what this is really about. A front door key. A safe bed. A fresh start.

Andrew D’Arcy and the team do practical, local work that genuinely changes lives.

If you’re in a position to support before June 30, donations are tax deductible and go directly towards helping keep vulnerable people safely housed in St Kilda.

Link in bio, or search St Kilda Community Housing donate.

Well done to Andrew and the team.

Great night at the Foundation Gala.

It was a real pleasure meeting Shane Jacobson and spending the evening with a room full of like-minded industry professionals who care about the future of our industry.

The Foundation did a fantastic job putting the night together, and it was great to see such strong support from across the sector.

Attending in my role as President of Victoria, I was reminded again how powerful it is when our industry comes together behind a good cause.

Well done to everyone involved.

Great morning at the HIA Victoria Industry Outlook Breakfast with the BPC. As the first photo shows, Leo had the best seat in the house laughing with, or possibly at, both Presidents, Glenn Mitchell and me. Either way, the banter was alive and well. A big thank you to HIA for the invitation, and to Keith and Glenn for a great breakfast and valuable industry insights.
It was encouraging to hear how aligned HIA, MBAV and BPC are on the key issues facing our industry, including the outlook ahead and the work around MFR. Strong advocacy matters, and it’s always better when the industry can speak with one voice.
Great morning, great people and important conversations.
