Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 7th Australia–Korea New Energy Forum in Perth on Monday, 15 June. 🇦🇺🇰🇷

Co-hosted with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the New Energy Forum brought together senior leaders from industry, government and research for an afternoon of insights, discussion and connection across the energy transition.

We were pleased to welcome both members and non-members to this flagship event, focused on strengthening Australia–Korea collaboration through knowledge exchange on key sectors, emerging initiatives and recent developments. Discussions also underscored the importance of energy intersecurity in supporting a more connected and resilient transition.

A sincere thank you to our speakers and panellists for sharing their expertise and real-world perspectives across key sectors, including:
✅ Bilateral collaboration on carbon neutrality, with projects focused on green carbon and CO₂ storage
✅ The Tangkam BESS Project, marking Korea Overseas Infrastructure and Urban Development Corporation’s first entry into the Australian power market to support grid stability amid renewable energy expansion
✅ Progress in large-scale hydrogen and green industry projects moving into feasibility and early delivery, supported by stronger funding, partnerships and offtake pathways
✅ Deepening collaboration across decarbonisation, project development and financing support

We also held a private dinner in Perth with key stakeholders and high-tier members of the AKBC in Perth. This intimate dinner with Hon. Martin Ferguson AM, the Chair of the AKBC, The Hon David Michael MLA, WA Minister for Mines and Petroleum and Mr Jimin Kim, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of Korea to Australia, enabled a focused exchange of insights and strengthened connections within the Australia–Korea business community in Western Australia.

This level of engagement highlights the continued importance of the Australia–Korea partnership in supporting energy security, supply chain resilience and long-term regional collaboration. We thank our supporting partners, Department of Energy and Economic Diversification, InterContinental Energy, Low Emission Technology Australia, Woodside Energy and Harmony Agriculture & Food Company for their support of the New Energy Forum.

📢 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 📢

BP has entered into an agreement to dilute a 5% interest in the Browse project in Western Australia to South Korea’s GS Energy, with BP retaining a 39.33% working interest. The transaction marks GS Energy’s entry into one of Australia’s largest undeveloped gas projects.

The proposed Browse to North West Shelf (NWS) Project involves producing gas from Browse — Australia’s largest undeveloped offshore gas resource — and processing it at the NWS Project’s Karratha Gas Plant. BP and its partners continue to see long-term value in the project, including its role in supporting energy security in Australia and the wider region.

Korean media have reported GS Energy’s acquisition as participation in a major LNG development project in Western Australia valued at approximately A$48.7 billion, highlighting Korea’s continued interest in Australia’s energy sector and long-term LNG supply.

Other major participants in this project include Woodside, MIMI/Japan Australia LNG and PetroChina.

Why this matters:
🔹Energy remains a key pillar of the Australia–Korea economic relationship
🔹Korean investment continues to support major Australian energy projects and long-term regional energy security
🔹Browse is one of the most significant LNG developments in the Asia-Pacific region and could play an important role in future energy supply
🔹Australia and Korea’s energy and economic security are interdependent.
