Come along as we spray this faded colorbond roof. After we wash the roof, we apply one coat of surface prime +. Once adequately dried, we then apply 2 coats of the duramembrane in low sheen. Ensuring we evenly coat the surface for a smooth finish. We working from one side to another, top to bottom, keeping a wet edge. This guarantees us an even finish.

Brought this unglazed terracotta back to life.

Step 1 - blow down roof, clean out flashings to prevent leaks

Step 2 - Briskly wash down roof to try remove majority of the build up of debris. I work from the bottom up. 5 courses at a time going from one side to another. This minimises the chance of a leak whilst washing.

Step 3 - Work from the top down, throughly clean all the tile, especially the nose, as that’s what you see from the ground

Step 4 - Rinse down roof, and everything that got dirty whilst washing. Especially the neighbours house!

Step 5 - Mix the evolving elements house wash mix with pool chlorine. Spray across roof.

Step 6 - Rinse roof down. Come back a week later and all those black lichen marks should be gone. Repeat step 5 if necessary.

This customer came to me with a canundrum. He is planning to demo this house in 3 years, but it’s leaking in multiple spots. He was told it needed to be re roofed, I think we can fix this issues for a tenth of the price. Wish me luck.

Key points to take away from this simple repair

- Allow the bedding to dry completely before pointing, otherwise there’s a high chance the pointing can wash out on the colder weather in Melbourne, and also prematurely fail.

- As there isn’t a starter batten, putting nails to hold your corner cuts is the best way to keep them flush to the tile next to them. I also siliconed the corner cuts that are over the soaker tray for extra security.

I come across this same issue quite a bit. 60-80 year old roofs that really should be replaced, but customers don’t want to spend the money on it, yet they are spending 30-50k on kitchens and bathrooms without hesitation.
