This project involved renovating an existing timber deck by replacing the old decking boards with new composite decking boards. The scope of work also included installing a new wire balustrade system, which was not part of the original deck, along with new structural posts to support the balustrade, a Merbau timber handrail, and safety gates.
The project was more complex than a standard deck renovation because, after the existing decking boards were removed, it became evident that several support posts required re-stumping. The existing frame also needed to be levelled and adjusted before the new composite decking could be installed. To provide adequate support for the composite decking, additional joists were installed, and the spacing between the existing joists was adjusted to meet the required centres. These structural improvements ensured a strong, level, and durable deck that complies with the manufacturer’s installation requirements.
