The Indigenous Plumbing and Sanitation Foundation (IPSF) fights for the basic human right of every Australian to have access to clean drinking water.
Last week, the IPSF travelled to the Southern Downs Region, QLD. The traditional owners of the area are the Keinjan Peoples, who call the land Gooragooby.
Collaborating with the Goolburri Aboriginal Health Advancement Company, the IPSF visited a Keinjan family to help refill their recently broken rainwater tank. The pump and fittings broke meaning almost all their water was lost, and once these were repaired by a local licenced plumber, the IPSF ensured the tank was filled.
The water tank is the family’s only source of clean drinking water – and the tank was severely depleted with only a few days of water remaining. During the visit, the IPSF repaired faulty fixtures, taught the eldest three children (13,14 and 16) how to repair leaky taps, and tanked in 10,000 litres of clean drinking water.
Small, grassroots projects like this can make a huge difference in the lives of so many. The cost of this project was less than $500, meaning it could be completely funded through our smallest sponsorship package – yet it delivered immeasurable value for this Keinijan family.
Over 150,000 Australians do not have proper access to clean drinking water. Your donation empowers families and communities with lasting, sustainable access to proper plumbing and sanitation services.
