Meet the Team | Curtis

With a love of houses since he could remember, Curtis’ passion for design started long before architecture became his career.

From creating tutorials teaching others how to build Minecraft from a floor plan in Year 3, to studying Building Design, Curtis has always been drawn to the details that shape the spaces we inhabit.

Meet the Team | Curtis in the studio

At the studio you’ll usually find Curtis somewhere between documenting a project and editing a post for our social media - with his experience in design, social media and marketing he’s always thinking of creative ways to share what’s happening at Nique.

Meet the Team | Curtis beyond the studio

With a love for all things creative fashion and heritage, you’ll usually find Curtis shooting content with his friends, exploring Melbourne’s latest inner-city spots or photographing his next favourite Victorian Terrace house.

Stepping back into the studio these interests often find their way back into Curtis’ work.

Yas loves travelling, immersing herself in architecture and experiencing how different cultures shape the spaces around them.

These interests reflect Yasmin’s love for creativity, detail, and design, while continually inspiring the way she
sees and understands architecture.

Meet the Team | Mon

If you pop by the studio you’ll usually find Mon working closely with the team on a range of projects from the first sketch through to the final touches.

Mon’s passion for design and people has always been second nature. Growing up on construction sites, she’d often be sketching or working on the buildings around her.

With an eye for detail and a vision for the strategic work it takes to get there, Mon’s strength lies in the thoughtful balance of form, function (and a happy client).

Meet the Team | Mon beyond the studio

Away from the office you’ll usually find Mon out and about. Whether it’s trying the latest restaurant or cafe, travelling or just wandering out in nature with our Head of People & Culture, Skadi, Mon finds inspiration endless.

“Having a curious mind is the key to crafting good design, and that drives a lot of what we do as spatial problem solvers. You’d be surprised where you might be inspired if you take a moment to look at the world with a truly curious eye.”

The Terraces, Eastern Rd | Ready for work.

We used a muted palette of greys to create a space that balances warmth and functionality, letting the views do the talking.

BTS | Spend the morning with Mon.

After arriving at the studio and catching up with the team, we prepped for a client meeting to talk them through some floor plan options for a home they just purchased.

Then we packed up some samples for a meeting with the client, builder and joiner for an exciting project in Sydney.

Inspiration | Visiting Walsh Street House

Designed by the iconic Australian architect Robin Boyd, for his family in 1957, Walsh Street House is known for its distinctive sloping roof suspended on steel cables.

The home, separated into two pavilions, faces into a central courtyard and pond. As you enter from the street, you’re greeted within a modest foyer and open plan living on the mezzanine with the kitchen and dining below.

The kids bedrooms, bathroom and a secondary living space are tucked away in the rear pavilion with carparking beneath.

Although revolutionary, at the time, this spatial flow is something we find clients still seek in their home today.
