BUILDING A GARDEN IS STILL BUILDING

I seem to be having a lot of conversations about the cost of building a garden with home owners lately.

And prices have certainly increased significantly over the last few years.

So how do you put a cost on building an outdoor space which adds value, in terms of lifestyle, liveability and to the property itself?

Compare building a garden with the materials, equipment and labour require, and therefore cost, of adding another room or two to your house. The number of rooms depending on size and scope of the garden project.

We can discuss costs during the design process. Without at least a Concept Plan it is difficult to estimate what a garden will cost.

GARDEN SOLUTIONS

Hello my name is Diane and I am a problem solver. I am also a Landscape Designer who loves finding solutions for those difficult areas in your garden.
Tension cables are attached to the narrow driveway fence and we are nearly ready to plant. Narrow Camellia sasanqua varieties are an attractive option for this tight spot and they are easy to espalier.

This is Camellia ‘Early pearly’. I have selected Bergenia as the under planting as I love their big leaves. Other options are Liriopes or for a native touch a small Lomandra.

Need to paint this fence a dark grey to make the glossy camellia leaves pop.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE GARDEN STYLE?

Photos are of two impressive but very different garden styles at this year’s Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show.

First one is very formal using straight lines, repeating shapes, attractive paving, built structures and large pots to give the garden its shape. The other garden is quite organic using rocks and native grass trees (Xanthorrhoea) to provide the garden’s structure.
