A family garden in Shepparton designed not just to complement the new home, but to grow and evolve alongside the family who calls it home.

Drawing from personal experience and the home’s modern farmhouse architecture, with subtle French provincial influences, the garden has a relaxed and timeless character, with layered patterned plantings, generous lawn, swimming pool, productive gardens and spaces for the whole family to enjoy.

Large canopy trees, seasonal planting, espaliered fruit trees, salt seeded concrete and bricks reclaimed from the site bring texture and character to the garden, while the western bush reserve outlook has been embraced as an important part of the borrowed landscape experience.

Excited to share this first look at a garden shaped around the way this family lives, with plenty of room to play, gather and grow together.

It’s raining here and I’ve been reminded why we love the sound of running water in our landscapes.

At our Avenel project, the water feature takes its cues from the surrounding Strathbogie Ranges. Agriculture and Country come together through repurposed sheep troughs and ancient granite, shaping a series of ponds we term ‘the Chain of Ponds’. Together they bring water into the garden and create a sense of restorative calm.

The gentle sound of running water softens the road beyond while creating habitat for wildlife and moments for mindfulness.

What a beautiful weekend at the Yea Garden Expo.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Speakers Tent. It was such a pleasure to share my own garden, , alongside the other wonderful speakers.

I loved meeting passionate gardeners, catching up with familiar local faces, and chatting with UGFM - Radio Murrindindi about lala Landscapes.

I have taken a little trip down memory lane this week while working on my presentation for Yea Garden Expo and it’s reminded me why I do what I do.

I see gardens as learning landscapes, places where we and our families & friends can connect with nature, explore and grow.

I’m passionate about creating that possibility for my clients too, because learning can happen in all sorts of settings and sometimes the garden is the best classroom of all.

This Saturday at 12pm, I’ll be sharing a very personal project, my own garden, Where Wild Things Grow and the journey of creating a garden that feels connected to the Art Deco movement and in harmony with our home.

When I began researching Art Deco gardens, I couldn’t find much that explored the style exclusively as a garden design, particularly within an Australian context.

So, this garden became an opportunity to explore that question for myself. What might an Art Deco garden look and feel like in an Australian landscape context?

Enjoy the before and afters. I hope to see you Saturday.

Thank you Sage Journal | For the garden curious for including us. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d be celebrating 12 months in small business with a feature in your beautiful journal, Sage Vol. 2 Our Creative Nature.

I am incredibly grateful to be included, for the time and collaboration spent with the talented bechaycraft, and for the opportunity to have our work shared with such a wonderful international audience.

Where will you be reading Sage Journal | For the garden curious?

Curled up in a quiet corner of the garden.

Settled beneath the shade of a tree.

With a morning coffee in the sun.

Or perhaps tucked away amongst the planting, with nowhere else to be.

Our gardens aren’t just something to look at they’re spaces to live in, slow down in and enjoy.

We’re looking forward to the next edition of Sage Journal, arriving next week and thinking about all the beautiful spaces we create for our clients to pause, take a breath and spend a little more time outside.

So, where will you be reading yours?
