Hopetoun Residence

A room is defined as much by its details as its proportions.

At Hopetoun Residence, the existing heritage skirting profile is reinterpreted as a continuous travertine plinth, establishing a new architectural datum that extends seamlessly into the custom joinery. Rather than replicating the past, the intervention honours it through material permanence, precision and restraint.

The bedroom unfolds through a sequence of softened arches towards the ensuite, where richly veined stone anchors the experience with quiet confidence. Heritage and contemporary architecture are not contrasted, but resolved into a singular language that feels both enduring and unmistakably of today.

Hopetoun Residence | Ensuite

The most enduring spaces are often the quietest.

For the ensuite at Hopetoun Residence, materiality becomes the architecture. A richly veined natural stone is carved into a monolithic vanity, allowing every edge, return and surface to celebrate the continuity of the slab. Soft fluted detailing, translucent glass blocks and brushed metal fixtures provide a restrained backdrop, letting texture and craftsmanship take centre stage.

A calm, tactile palette transforms the daily ritual into a moment of pause—where luxury is expressed through authenticity, precision and timeless restraint.

Docker St

A home shaped by softness, light and restraint.

The curved upper form creates a calm street presence, held between established trees and a finely layered garden edge. Inside, the same language continues through a warm timber ceiling, pale joinery, soft curtains, curved volumes and carefully placed moments of colour.

The interior is designed as a series of quiet connections: kitchen to dining, living to garden, built-in joinery to daily ritual. Materiality is kept deliberately calm, allowing texture, shadow and domestic life to become the ornament.

A house with a gentle civic face, and a deeply private interior world.

Docker Street.

A home shaped through softness, warmth and flow.

The interior is organised as a series of connected moments — compressed and open, curved and linear, intimate and generous. A continuous timber-lined ceiling draws the eye through the house, giving rhythm and warmth to the plan, while curved masonry and polished plaster forms soften the transitions between rooms.

Light is carefully held and filtered throughout: through courtyard openings acting as chambers of light, sheer curtains, skylit volumes and framed thresholds. The result is a family home that feels calm, tactile and quietly expansive.

At Docker Street, detail is not decorative. It is spatial, material and atmospheric — shaping how the home is experienced from one room to the next.

Docker Street

A moment’s pause to reflect, finding beauty in the ordinary.

Docker Street is composed through soft thresholds, curved forms and a restrained material palette of timber, waxed hard plaster, linen and muted colour.

Light is drawn deep into the home, moving across timber ceilings, curved walls, quiet joinery and moments of domestic intimacy.

The result is a house of atmosphere and proportion — calm, tactile and gently expressive.

Whitlam Place

Conceived as a series of contained and intimate spaces, Whitlam Place is ordered around a central courtyard terrace — a quiet outdoor room held within the canopies of Ironbark trees.

The interior carries a sense of weight and permanence, expressed through generous scale, substantive proportions and monolithic forms. These are softened by subtle modulations of warm whites, stone, timber and soothing grey tones.

Curved geometries introduce a gentle rhythm throughout the home: rounded marble edges, circular tables, softened reveals and sculptural elements that bring a quiet musicality to the plan.

Across the rooms, delicate textures and natural materials catch the shifting light. The terrace tiles, stone surfaces and pale interior walls receive the soft, dappled shadow of leaves — bringing the movement of the trees into the experience of the architecture.

A home shaped by stillness, light, intimacy and permanence.

Whitlam Place, Fitzroy.

Set within Fitzroy’s Golden Triangle, between the civic presence of the Town Hall, the intimacy of Whitlam Place gardens, and the cultural charge of Brunswick, Gertrude and Smith Streets, this project was never simply about apartment living.

Whitlam Place was conceived as a building in conversation with its neighbourhood — drawing from the rhythm and ornament of nearby civic architecture, the texture of Fitzroy’s creative history, and the layered life of the street. Its fluted concrete skin, copper-oxide finish, framed windows, planted courtyards and neon-lit circulation spaces form a deliberately expressive language: part residence, part urban marker, part continuation of Fitzroy’s art and design culture.

The project’s impact lies in this balance — private homes that still contribute to the public character of place; a building that holds its own, while belonging deeply to its context.

Christmas Street.

Two pavilions joined by a glazed gallery — an inner courtyard garden held between.

Each threshold reveals the next. Raw concrete, sage green joinery, light that shifts through the day.
