When an elderly customer receives a $2,000+ bill for a standard garage door motor installation, something has gone wrong.

“Brett”, a long-time PT Doors client, called us after a large nationwide home-services company replaced his father's garage door opener.

The unit installed was a Merlin MS107, one of our top sellers.
Brett wanted to verify the cost. His father had been charged well over $2,000 for the job.

Our price for that exact same motor, including GST and professional installation, was under $1,000.

The price difference was over $1,100 on a single, standard service call.

It is easy to assume that a massive brand or nationwide network guarantees fair pricing. But larger overheads often mean inflated bills, and elderly family members can easily feel pressured into agreeing to work on the spot.

Before approving any major repair or motor replacement:

Consider what happened to “John”, a homeowner in Illawong:

He noticed a loose spring and slack cables on his garage door. Deciding to fix it himself, he attempted an adjustment without specialized equipment or technical training.

Garage door springs operate under immense tension. During his repair attempt, the spring violently snapped, causing severe trauma that required major hand surgery.

While garage doors appear simple on the outside, their spring and cable assemblies support and balance hundreds of pounds of moving weight. Attempting to adjust these components without qualified expertise is extremely hazardous.
