Our whole region has been without power and internet.. But it has returned. Many thanks for all the messages, we are safe but busy...our little area in mooball has been hit hard and we escaped the most lightly.
During the flood, the water actually topped the railway line and started to go over.. This has not happened before that any locals are aware of.
So what now? The office is almost mud free however it is going to need to be demolished - part of being flood resilient is learning from our current situation and assessing how to mitigate the impact for the future. For us, it's simply not viable to keep things how they are.
But that can wait.. Like I said, we got off pretty bloody lightly and the fact we have dry beds to fall into at night is a gift that many don't have. Today we are off to Jacob's fathers to see if the flood water has receded from his home in south murwillumbah and start the clean up process.
