When paving covers your earth electrode… is it still doing its job? 🤔⚡
This photo shows an earth electrode installed in a paved area.
At first glance — it looks fine.
But here’s the issue most people don’t think about:
Earth electrodes rely on good contact with moist soil to achieve low resistance.
When paving is installed over the area, it can:
• Reduce water pe*******on into the soil
• Dry out the surrounding ground
• Increase earth resistance
• Compromise fault protection performance
In dry conditions, especially here on the Sunshine Coast, soil can become very resistive. And if moisture can’t naturally reach the electrode anymore, its effectiveness may drop over time.
