GETTING TO KNOW PHIL 🔨

AKA Filthy Phil, Old Phil, Philly… the old man trapped in a young bloke’s body 😂

Phil first came through LMS as a school-based apprentice and is now officially 2½ years into his apprenticeship and it’s continuing to fly by.

For a young bloke, Phil is incredibly sharp and wise well beyond his years. An incredible soul who’s loyal, committed, dependable and genuinely cares about the people around him.

He’s been a massive part of the LMS journey over the last few years, and it’s been unreal watching him grow — not just as a bloke, but as a carpenter.

His skills on the tools are catching up pretty bloody quickly too. 🔨

Proud of you, Philly. Keep doing what you’re doing mate — plenty ahead of you. ❤️

Culture isn’t built when things are easy.

It’s built when things are hard.

After my last post about culture, I had a stack of DMs from people asking questions, sharing what they’re dealing with and trying to work out how to navigate their own teams.

The industry is fu***ng hard at the moment.

Margins are tight. Work is unpredictable. People are under pressure. And when things get tough, culture, leadership and the people around you matter more than ever.

I definitely don’t have all the answers.

But we’ve spent years trying things, getting things wrong, learning, rebuilding and working out what actually creates a crew that gives a s**t.

And if anything we’ve learnt can help someone else — I’m happy to share it.

Also, if there is something you are doing that’s going really well let us know.

If you’re struggling with culture, your team, leadership, standards or just navigating business at the moment, shoot me a DM.

There are plenty of good people in this industry.

And good people help good people get through challenging times.

🔨 Harley’s Last Hammer Humpday 🔨

It’s a bit of a bittersweet one this week. What started as a chat at the gym turned into 4+ years of watching Harl grow with the LMS crew — smashing out a Mature Aged Carpentry apprenticeship and coming out the other side with Dual Trades in his back pocket.

But it was never just about the tools (and mate, you’ve got more of them than Total Tools 😅). Harl has always treated LMS like it was his own business — that kind of ownership and pride is rare, and we’ve never taken it for granted. He’s tackled countless ventures along the way, putting those electrical skills to work, and always took the time to teach the young apprentices coming through how to organise themselves 🍂

A legend to learn off and a wealth of knowledge. Thank you for being part of the LMS crew.

So although this might be the last Hammer Humpday with an LMS shirt on, we’ve got a feeling this isn’t goodbye — just see you round, Harley 👀 We’re sure there’ll be plenty more ventures together down the track.

🔨 HAMMER HUMP DAY 🔨

Ned Schloeffel back on the hammer for Part 2 at Box Hill.

Days closer to being out of the ground, posts going on and onto the sub floor next. Boys will be keen to see the back of this Mud.

It’s been a proper slog out here — mud, rain, plenty of problem solving and a fair few hard days — but the boys have just kept turning up and chipping away.

That’s the thing about building… some weeks you make massive progress, other weeks you feel like you’re fighting for every inch.

But keep showing up, keep doing the little things right, and eventually you get to stand back and see what all that hard work was for.

Proud of the boys on this one. 💪🏼

Still a bit to go… but she’s coming together.
