Behind the Build | This Brighton home held 35 years of one family’s story

What began as a modest home grew into the family’s own over three and a half decades.

Reimagining it meant reconfiguring the existing footprint entirely: a second-storey addition, a new internal courtyard, and an orientation flipped to face north, all within a kilometre of Port Phillip Bay.

Wrapped in an external metal shell over raw, silvery brickwork and charred timber, the home now shelters interior spaces built to hold the next chapter of the same story.

We recently gathered to bring the team together in person, focusing on our shared goals, aligning on what’s next, and mapping out the path forward.

It’s a great day to refocus on what matters most. Especially nice to finally have the offshore team here with us, building a stronger culture so we can show up even better for the collaborators we work with every day.

Two years after the handover, it was great catching up with Susan to see how their family has settled into their home. Hearing her talk about their life makes us so genuinely happy for them:

“We are so happy; there's nothing we would change. And the fact that we just don't want to leave. And now Stephen is retiring, and this wasn't going to be where we live, and now it is.

It's very different; this was just going to be a weekend, a beach house for the kids and everything, and now it's home.

And who would have thought that you could be just so in love with something that was, you know, a dream that just came to life.”

Have you seen this brick up close?

Nubrik Artisan NB Wolf looks stunning in person.

This was specified for our Camberwell renovation and extension well before it became Brickworks 2025 Brick of the Year, and the bullnose detail is already taking shape.

Can’t wait to show you how this one comes together.
