🧀 It's Landcare Week!

This week we celebrate the volunteers who care for our landscapes, waterways and wildlifeβ€”and invite new people to join them.
Whether you've planted one tree or one thousand, every contribution matters.

πŸ“… This month you can make your own impact by joining us for Stewarts River Revival Day on Saturday 22 August.
Together we'll plant native species, improve river health and help create habitat for local wildlife.

Sunday is National Tree Day (26 July 2026)
🌳 Every tree planted is an investment in tomorrow.

This National Tree Day, let's celebrate the incredible volunteers who help restore our local landscapes, improve water quality, and create habitat for native wildlife.

If you've ever thought about getting involved in Landcare, now is the perfect time.

The best part? You can continue making a difference next month at our Stewarts River Revival Day on Saturday 22 August. Together we'll plant locally native species to help restore the health of Stewarts River for future generations.

πŸ’š Small actions. Big impact.

The Stroud Brick and Rolling Pin Throwing Competition is an annual event that started in 1960 (Stroud UK and USA), with Australia and Canada joining in in 1961, and in 1962 Australia suggested including a women’s rolling pin contest.

My great grandmother, Lavinia Murray, was one of a the organisers for the inaugural NSW competition, and is pictured here at the first contest.

Traditionally, males throw a brick (weighing in at around five pounds) and women get to fling a rolling pin (weighing two pounds) with kids hurling rubber hens.

This year's theme was "Looking Back. Moving Forward", and I joined in the sport to celebrate my amazing Nana Lavinia, who was also a poet and the first female councillor for the region.
