Storm related Air conditioning and other sensitive electrical appliance faults/prevention.

With storms approaching the hills I thought it might be informative and hopefully save people some issues. This goes for anything electrical and not just air conditioning.

If a storm/lightning is nearing your place and you have any electrical appliances that are not needed or critical to have operating at the time. Unplug them if possibly or for air conditioners and the likes, switch them off at the outside isolator or even at the your main switchboard circuit breakers.

*please note: having things “switched off” doesn’t guaranty they are safe from spikes and surges. But it can reduce the chances of damage occurring.

Once storm has passed if the power grid is unaffected you can plug things back in or turn back on.
If the power network has been impacted and is out, leave these items unplugged and off until the power has been restored. Then once power has been restored, start switching and plugging things back in one at a time.

If you find your air conditioning unit faults or fails to start once the storm has passed and power has been restored (if there was an outage or spike), don’t panic!

First thing is to isolate the power to the system either with the outside isolator switch, or systems circuit breaker in switchboard (if no isolation switch) for a, ****minimum 5 minutes****.
After that 5 minutes, switch isolator/CB on and start the unit as normal.
If this does not clear the fault, feel free to contact me for further assistance.

Also another note to be aware of, be careful what generators you are trying to run air conditioning units on.
Modern air conditioning units have very sensitive electrical components and pcbs’s. Some generators can produce “dirty power” (very broad term) which can damage these sensitive components.

If you would like anymore information or have any faults, I can help you with your air conditioning and refrigeration requirements.

It was a pleasure to be given the opportunity to be part of this awesome project.

Installing Mitsubishi Heavy Industry reverse cycle air con units in the meeting room and Seeley evaporative air cons in the workshop.

The new workshop is looking fantastic! This week, the coffee rock retaining walls were completed, and the building site has been fully cleared and cleaned. The internal fit-out is well underway, thanks to the ongoing efforts of our dedicated members who continue to lend a hand every Wednesday and Saturday morning.
Local businesses who have contributed to the project include: RM Smith and Sons Rural Builders, Waypoint Outdoor, Kings Earth and Turf, JSS Contracting, LJM Electrical, Larry Croft Plumbing, Chrisp Air Conditioning, Secureview Communications and Security, IKM IT Solutions, and Fasttrack Approvals. GMS is very grateful for their support and contributions.

Air conditioning faults after lightning/power disruptions.

Just a friendly reminder for anyone having issues with their air conditioning units after power disruptions/lightning.
If you find your air conditioning unit faults or fails to start once power has been restored, don’t panic!

First thing is to isolate the power to the system either with the outside isolator switch, or systems circuit breaker (if no isolation switch) for a, ****minimum 5 minutes****.
After that 5 minutes, switch isolator/CB on and start the unit as normal.
If this does not clear the fault, feel free to contact me for further assistance.

Even better still, if you’re currently still without power. Isolate your air conditioning units and other high load appliances. Once power is reinstated, then go around and switch these appliances back on one by one.

On another note, be careful what generators you are trying to run air conditioning units on.
Modern air conditioning units have very sensitive electrical components and pcbs’s. Some generators can produce “dirty power” (very broad term) which can damage these sensitive components.
