Back in 2020, nine-year-old Ella was bitten by a tiger snake near a creek in Victoria.

Now if most adults got bitten by a tiger snake, there'd probably be a fair bit of screaming, running around and Googling things they should've known already.

Instead, Ella stayed calm.

She immobilised the limb.

She knew not to panic.

And she knew to call Triple Zero.

Later she explained exactly where she'd learned it:

"All from Russell Coight."

Somehow, amongst all the exploding campfires, crashed Land Rovers and catastrophic bush adventures, she had absorbed the actual snake bite advice.

Which means Russell Coight may have achieved something no one thought possible.

He accidentally became educational television.

Not because he meant to.

Not because that was the plan.

But because somewhere between setting fire to a campsite and falling off a cliff, a nine-year-old girl learned exactly what to do when she was bitten by a tiger snake.

Honestly that's the most Australian first-aid story ever told.

A kid gets bitten by a deadly snake and survives because she paid attention during Russell Coight.

Calls are few and far between but this morning I was called to a copperhead on a horse property in Moorooduc and a few days ago I was called out to tiger snake in Frankston vegetable patch.

So i thought I'd throw up an old clip from 2012
This copperhead was seen going into the drain and fortunately for me, the other end of the drain was pretty easily accessible from the back yard.

I blocked the drain on the street with a 660ml soft drink bottle wrapped in a tea towel and filled the drain from the hose in the backyard.
A few minutes later the soggy snake was in the bag.
