- if your solar power system has been damaged or inundated by flood water, make sure a licensed electrician has inspected and repaired it before you attempt to turn it back on. Remember your panels will continue to generate electricity while the sun is out, so always assume the whole system is live even if the inverter is turned off.
⚠ Do not enter your roof and stay away from solar panels and cables until the system has been checked by a licensed electrician.
⚠ Do not attempt to turn your system on or off until it has been checked. Components could still be wet, and you could receive an electric shock.
⚠ Even if your home was not flooded, the heavy rain may still have caused problems with your solar power system. If it doesn’t appear to be working properly, get it checked by a licensed electrician.

Using water damaged electrical equipment can cause electric shocks and fires. Follow these simple steps if flood water has damaged your electrical equipment:
• Do not plug in or use any appliances that have been in the flood water until they have been checked by a licensed electrician.
• Immediately dispose of or have a licensed electrician repair any electrical appliances that have been immersed in water.
• Never attempt to repair faulty electrical appliances yourself – always use a licensed electrician to examine and repair your faulty equipment.
• Never use an appliance with a frayed cord, cracked or broken plug.
• Do not touch anything electrical with wet hands.
• Service appliances in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions.

Looking to install a permanently connected generator? Give Michael a call today.

Looking to install a permanently connected generator?

A few things to consider before you get one installed:
⚡ A licensed electrician must connect your generator to your house circuit and meet Energex, Ergon Energy’s or your local electricity supplier’s requirements.
⚡ The installation must meet Australian Standards for electrical safety (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3010:2015 and AS 2790:1989).
⚡ Your electrician must also install a permanently wired changeover switch to prevent back-feeding.
⚡ Never run generators indoors.

Buying a new property?
Don’t forget to get an electrical safety inspection - as building and pest inspections don’t cover electrical issues.

An electrical safety inspection will help identify issues with the property’s electrical wiring and inbuilt electrical equipment. This will let you know if any expensive electrical improvements are needed before you commit to buying and ensures the property is safe for you and your family.

Always get a licensed electrician to do this for you! Find your local licensed electrician at https://fswqap.worksafe.qld.gov.au/elis/
