Welcoming this season’s new recruits to the OneFortyOne summer fire crew!🔥

Pictured here with Dane and Phil, the new group from Gildera Forestry Services , A & M Contracting Pty Ltd, and OneFortyOne completed their practical skills training last week.

Over 3 days, the trainees learned canvas hose lay, operation of fire tankers, combatting grass fires, and using radios effectively.

The new crew is also completing three days of CFS firefighter training this week before becoming active firefighters.

Have you seen this truck around town?
It’s a Bulk Water Carrier.

Part of our firefighting fleet, this BWC can hold and transport 9000L of water.

A few of our crew, like Planning Forester Sarah Maddison (pictured), are preparing for their Heavy Rigid licenses and driving the BWC around the forest and in town.

Once licensed, Sarah will learn how to use the BWC and its features.

This includes things like extra off road training, learning where to get water from, how to use the pumps, and how to get water safely and effectively to a fire and into a fire truck.

“It’s been a fun challenge to learn, and great to upskill and add to my fire fighting repertoire,” Sarah said.

“If you see us driving slowly around town, thanks for your patience – we’re still learning!”
