Good planning starts well before construction begins.

Getting the right people involved early makes all the difference.

Today we met on site with our client and plumber during pre-construction to work through the wastewater requirements for their new home.

Why so early? Because these decisions directly impact the design, engineering and overall planning of the project.

By working through the details together before construction starts, we can identify potential challenges, make informed decisions and ensure everything is accurately documented in the plans.

It's all part of our collaborative pre-construction process.

What happens before we close up our walls and finally line the walls with plasterboard?

Before installing the plasterboard, we complete a thorough pre-plaster checklist, including testing the moisture content of our timber framing to ensure it’s below 15%.

Why does this matter?

During construction, timber can be exposed to changing weather conditions. This frame was exposed to some winter rain events, which is why we install the weather-resistant barriers as soon as possible to help protect the structure.

Checking moisture levels before closing up the walls is an important step in preventing moisture-related issues like mould staying within the framed cavity of the walls.

Using a moisture meter, we test multiple locations throughout the home, as different areas can experience different levels of moisture exposure.

We then photograph and document our readings as part of our quality assurance process.

It’s these checks behind the scenes that help us build homes that will be durable and free from moisture.

The kitchen is the heart of the home.

It’s where so much of everyday life happens, and no two families use theirs quite the same way.

For us, it’s a big island bench where dinner is being prepared, teenagers finishing homework and someone’s enjoying a glass of w**e, all while catching up on the day.

Getting the first fix electrical and plumbing right on a renovation takes careful planning and often goes unnoticed. Let’s take you behind the scenes and show you how it’s done.

On this project there’s a lot of existing brickwork which forms part of the new design so we have to avoid chasing into it.

Fixing timber battens on the walls so we can run the cables and water pipes behind allows us to get these services into the correct positions.

If this isn’t thought through early, the finished product can be a disaster.

By collaborating closely with our contractors we can plan this out thoughtfully so we handover a seamless and well built renovation.

As we finish off another week, we want to give a shout-out to our Saxony team, trades and clients for the great communication & collaborative work that’s taken place this week.

One thing we really value at Saxony is bringing everyone together throughout the building journey.

Regular site meetings with our clients, trades and building team give us the opportunity to talk through the details, problem solve together and make sure we're achieving the result our clients are looking for.
